Valabik’s contract is a two-way contract worth $550,000 at the NHL level.
Any time you can add someone to the organization named Boris, you jump at the chance.

He's apparently a huge, mean son of a *****. Bottom pairing guy?

He's never really panned out @ the NHL level but I've always liked him. Not a bad signing, makes our D deeper without having to waste a roster spot. Call him up when guys get injured.

Some nice depth, has the skills to be an NHL defencemen, never put it together. Could always surprise us and make the team, could be a solid AHL defenceman and not a bad callup option. Good signing.

AHL fodder. All the same good to bring in a vet for WBS.

Not bad for an emergency call-up guy. Don't want to see him on the opening night roster.

He always played really good against us but could never put it together against anyone else. If he could bring that mean streak more consistently night in and out this can be a decent pick up.

Not the defenseman I was hoping for (Exelby or O'Brien) But this isn't a bad signing. Valabik is a decent defenseman, he has a lot of size and has the skill set to be an NHL defenseman. I wouldn't mind it if he made the team, he could flourish in our defensive system.

Hopefully he can find his stride here and develop into a solid bottom pairing guy. That would solve a couple of problems (bottom pairing, physicality on the back end).

Surprised to see he was taken 10th overall.

"Don't let the birthday fool you, this guy is anything but a sweetheart. In fact, he might be the meanest European defenseman to ever come over to the OHL. He uses his body well and is a fearsome fighter .... "

How many guys do you see get taken because they are decent skaters for the size? Guy just has zero offensive skills and if you are going to be that player you have play smart defense which I guess he struggled with.

Top notch fighter when he was still in the OHL, but I'm not sure how far along his fighting has come since turning pro. Decent depth signing, though.

Valabik can play a solid defensive game and provide a little muscle too. He's basically the #9 guy on the depth chart, but I'd be perfectly comfortable with him moving as high as #7.

Yes!!!!!

Big Boris!

I've watched him since his jr days. Had a ton of potenial, just needs to keep working. He is slower, but that comes with size like that. The guy is a house on skates. 6'7'' 250.

He's a Hal Gill kind of player. But he's mean.

He was drafted to be the next Chara, but never lived up to it.

Still a solid 3rd pairing guy. Won't take ***** from anyone.

I would love him to make the team over Niskanen. Brings a physical aspect along with Engelland on the back end. Real mean crease clearing effort. I don't know if I would want him out there during important times though. Stupid plays and bad penalties. Of course I don't want Engelland, Lovejoy, or Niskanen out there close games either.

Not a bad guy for #7/8 depth. He definitely won't be asked to play over his head for us like he was for Atlanta at times.

A Valabik-Engelland pair would be both hilarious and totally necessary for the first game against the Islanders.

Bruins fans coming in peace.

Boris is an underwhelming stay-at-home defenseman with an overly hyped mean-streak. Uses the body a lot, drops the gloves a good deal, but is frequently caught out of position and exploited due to his lack of skating ability.

He's a goon of a defenseman, but even then, his pugilistic skills leave much to be desired. He's a good depth d-man for W-B/S, but it goes no further than that. If he's your #7 or even #8, there's a problem.

Could be an okay partner for Niskanen or Lovejoy if he puts it together.

Most of us have seen Valabik play and we know what he brings from a more objective point of view.
