Randy Jones?

Hey everybody!
Jets fan here, as you might know we just signed Randy Jones to a One year deal.
I've heard a ton of negative about him dating back to his Philly days but I haven't heard a great deal about his stint with the Tampa. Whats your impression of him? Is he a serviceable top 6 D-man? Or will he be the seveth man at the end of the bench?

Thanks!

He was better than most of us expected. Solid bottom pairing defenseman who is able to step up and play 20+ minutes if needed. Before his injury and the acquisition of Brewer he was our #1 D on the PK too. Definitely not as bad as his reputation on HF.

First off ignore whatever Flyers and Kings fans say, they seem to have a personal hostility towards him.

Jones isn't great but in the right role he's not horrible either, the key with him and most 6th or 7th defensemen is to limit his minutes. Out of 8 defensemen last season in TOI he placed 7th and did fine.

He signed for the same term and dollars as Matt Gilroy and I can't blame the Lightning for making the switch due to potential alone but I would have been okay with Jones coming back instead. Being a huge part of one of the biggest goals in the postseason doesn't hurt either.

Thank guys, seems like when used properly he can be a serviceable D-man.

He's a serviceable D in the right situation. The problem in Philly was that he was a #4 and Holmgren paid him as such. It was not a good scene.

If you are looking for a bottom-pairing guy, and put him with someone steady, his overall skill set outweighs his flaws, some of which are significant, but still.

Love that he looked up the ice before getting to the puck. As Don Cherry would say, pay close attention to this, kids.

He is a decent 6th or 7th guy who will do a serviceable job for you. Philly likes to have a whipping boy and Randy was it. He will do a fine job for you in that roll.

passable 5th-7th d-man with an offensive upside, played a bit of PK in TB too and did fairly well. don't make the same mistake stevens did and make him your #4 guy. he's not as bad as everyone says but there are times where he'll get lost in his own end and it'll make you

He actually did a serviceable job when he was plugged into the top 4 role with the Lightning last year. Obviously wouldn't want him there full time but I think Boucher got him to achieve his full potential. Great addition for the bottom pairing and PK and a shot blocking machine. Would rather have him over Gilroy/Gervais

With the exception of about seven people everyone gets lost in their own end.
