Once Heatley waived his NMC to go to San Jose, it was the Sharks choice as to whether or not they wanted to honour it anymore AFAIK.

Is Havlat even good anymore? What's his contact status and cap hit?

I think Burns and Couture won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

1. yes, he is.

2. 4 years, 5 million per. Or in other words, 2.5 less than Heatley.

I wanted Burns: Check
I wanted to trade Heatley: Check

What the hell?

I knew that clause was void

I'm still getting over the shock, but this is a good trade. We now have a player who has proven he can perform in the playoffs, and we addressed our speed issue. Havlat is a fast little mother****er and i going to be alot mroe usefull than Heatley, especially in the playoffs.

This is good for Minny too, Heater - Koivu - Seto, they now have a legit offence.

This has got to be a precursor to something else. I like the trade but this only makes sense if we got something big in store.

This just made my day. Heatley wasn't a bad player by any means, but that contract was ridiculous. DW got it done! I doubt DW stops here though, he obviously has someone in mind (unless SVSE wants to cut spending).

Well we got faster, better defensively, and 2.5 million cheaper. Havlat has an extra year, but that's not a big deal. I am kind of just in shock. Wow. Can we do one more trade with minny to get seto back.
Marleau-Thornton-Couture
Clowe-Pavs-Havlat
Not necessarily better, but definitely a better fit.

Remember, Sharks just paid his $4m bonus THEN traded him. If this doesn't signify ALL IN I don't know what does.

We have $6m in cap space, a top-6 set, a 5 top 4 defensemen and $6m in cap space...

I really don't know what to think right now. Heatley's contract is off the books, and the Sharks dumped some salary. But Havlat is very injury prone.

I wasn't a big Havlat fan once he started disappointing us in Minnesota, but I think this was a fantastic move for the Sharks. Heatley was the player/contract that had to be removed to re-sign the Coutures and Burnses, and DW did it while adding speed, dangle, and playoff ability.

It's a precursor to Burns and Couture getting fat contract extensions!
