Havlat:

1. Makes less money.

2. Is 100x faster.

3. Better in the defensive zone.

4. Better in the playoffs.

Dany Heatley may put up more points next season, but this is a superb trade. I'm stoked.

I had no idea heatley'd nmc was one of those "limited" ones, I LOVE DW right now.

YES!!!Most people on here already know how much I disliked this guy...

I don't care if havlat isn't who he used to be, I would have traded heatley for a bag of pucks. Ok he can score 29-35 goals, but he's NOT the 50g player we hoped we were getting, we also didn't realize how much of a floater he is when he's not scoring, nor did we realize he was going to "get hurt" every postseason and only score a couple goals the entire playoffs.

Havlat actually trumped Heatley's point totals last year. With a much worse team.

Per Darren Dreger's twitter.
http://twitter.com/#!/darrendreger

Heatley has a modified no-trade. Had to submit a list of 10 teams he wouldn't go to before July 1. obviously Minny wasn't on that list.

Anyone else thinking Heater might have been unhappy on the 2nd line and 2nd PP and requested a trade privately?

The biggest reason for this trade is arguably the extra $2.5 mil in cap space. They can give Burns $7+ mil if they wanted to.

I still like this, it's just havlat is due for another serious injru now. But it's worth the risk to get a faster player who will actually do something in the playoffs, the cap space is nice too.
He had long lasting issues with shoulder, but ever since the surgery two years ago it hasn't been an issue. He's due for some minor injuries, but hes good to play over 70+ games.

Doug Wilson is a freaking genius.

Couture - Thornton - Havlat
Clowe - Pavs - Marleau

or

Pavs - Thornton - Havlat
Clowe - Couture - Marleau

Either way, that's an impressive top-6.
You should put him at RW with Clowe/Pavelski at his linemates

I'm thinking 5 on 5 vs the others teams top line:

Marleau - Thornton - Pavelski
Vlasic - Burns

That should goal diffrential against the big boys.

Then follow with:

Clowe - Couture - Havlat
Murray - Boyle

Nice.

Awesome, DW is fixing all the team problems *now* instead of before the trade deadline. I mean *all* the problems and before the season starts.

Look at our roster, we are way better with no *problems* at any position generally. I'm so stoked, what does the season start.

Wow you just traded my most despised former senator for my favorite former sen. In a second I went from hating the sharks to liking them.

You will love Marty havlat. Very exciting and dynamic player. Not a one trick pony slug ahol like Dany dikweed

Nooooooooooo.... I want Crosby!!! Crosby damn it!!!!

Well, Havlat has 12 goals and 28 points in his last 26 playoff games. Heatley has 5 goals and 22 points in his last 32 playoff games. Also, we add some MUCH needed speed.

How the heck does Dreger report this limited NTC existed and Pollack, Ratto, and Brazil never report this. Our local media sucks.

With roughly 7 million in cap space, we can go out and get another top six player and push Pavelski back down to the 3rd line and create three reliable lines.

Marleau-Thornton-top six acquisition
Clowe-Couture-Havlat
Handzus-Pavelski-Mitchell

I don't think it's over yet. Maybe a right-handed shot for Thornton and we could be looking at being favorites for the Cup next year.

The question is, what can we do with this cap space? The FA market is empty now, so how do we go down the trade route? Do we save it for extensions?

Everyone's bad for forgetting Heatley's NTC was limited.

That was public knowledge during the Ottawa days. Thought it was 8 teams, not 10. I remember because I asked the question, "why can't Heatley in real-time modify the list so his limited clause because a full clause?" LS explained the July 1st rule.

good luck in minny heater !

at the end of the day the nhl is still a business.

He's more connected I guess. Obviously one of us should start tweeting or emailing him when we need to know stuff.

How the hell did you get Burns and Havlat from this team? Thats like if LA got Richards and Carter from Philly for Ryan Smyth and Simmonds. Robbery.

See you in the finals!
