Why do people insist on linking Leetch and Zubov to MDZ.

I don't get it.

Is it because those are the only 3 legit puck-moving defensemen this team has had in the past ~22 seasons(absolutely pathetic)? Del Zotto is a talented player, but Leetch is a HOF Ranger legend, and Zubov is a borderline HOFer, who has had PPG seasons in the NHL. Del Zotto had 37 points as a 19 year old. There really isn't a comparison between these players.

People will assume he's guaranteed to bounce back next year and the Leetch comparison should be taken with a grain of salt. What if MDZ declines even further to the point where he's essentially valueless? I'm just thinking it's the best for the club to look into a LWer to play on our 1st line as I want this team to shift to a more of a win now mode. Did the Bruins really need a PMD? In a way yes, but solid two way players like Seidenberg were more valuable.

I don't think the point was to say that MDZ will be as good as Leetch was, only that Leetch struggled on defense early in his career, but eventually got his game together. Despite the fact that MDZ will obviously never bent he player Leetch was, there's no reason to think he can't straighten out his defensive game enough this season to make him a serviceable defenseman.

The Bruins also had a Norris trophy winning defense man on their team, though.
