I would like Marleau to reach 40 goals again, Couture above 30 again, and Pavelski to reach 30.

Even strength and PP should be the same.

I agree with the pp lines. Pavelski should still be on the 1st pp.

The Clowe-Pavelski-Setoguchi line was epic two years ago, and replacing Seto with Havlat should make it even better. I also like the idea of splitting up Thornton and Havlat so that our top 6 stays balanced.
My thought precisely. Get'er done, TMac!

Just for fun:
Clowe-Thornton-couture
Marleau-Pavs-Havlat

Top line mostly screens and knocks *****es around with burns knockin fools out with slapshots. 2nd line would be so damn fast and clutch.

I voted for Marleau-Thornton-Pavelski, Clowe-Couture-Havlat, but Logan and Pavs can be swapped around. I like the idea of Pavs playing with dynamic players. Him and Wellwood had some chemistry, and I believe him to have the hands of a very skilled playmaker, but the Whale can't keep himself up enough. He really is too weak.

Havs and Pavs could be really good together.

Now that's not to say Logan wouldn't. The guy is smart and talented and could play that way on ANY line.

It's either/or for me.

I'm not sure what we should go with, but I think it's great we have players who can play different positions.

I don't have logic to back me up (and I've been un-hockeyed for a year), but this was my first thought exactly.

I can just imagine Clowe-Pavs-Havlat being a lot of fun...

Marleau-Thornton-Couture (speed/playmaking/creativity)
Havlat-Pavelski-Clowe (Havlat will do very well with someone like Clowe who gets to the net)
Mitchell-Handzus-FA/TRADE (speed to offset Zeus, need another guy in here who is good for 10-15 goals)
McLaren/McArthy-Desjardins-McGinn (a gritty, large, and surprisingly quick 4th line. Also will be named the Mickey D's line)

+1.

Sure, Thornton's line doesn't have that RH shot, but the lineup above has a good balance of playmaking and finishing. Also, if TMac chooses to go strength vs strength as far as the forward lines go, a line of Marleau-Thornton-Couture can hold their own (defensively) against any top line in the NHL.

I wouldn't mind seeing Mcginn with a bigger role this year, i think Handzus would be the perfect center for him, they could get a great cycle game going and wear out opposing defenses. As for the top two lines you can't really go wrong. , Maybe ship Pavs and mitchell for a stud winger... Zach Parise? In my dreams lol. I can't wait for the season to start. This is the Sharks year

Marleau-JT-Couture/Pavs (interchangable)
Clowe-Pavs-Havlat
Mitchell-Zeus-Zeus's hair (need the Scott Thornton clone)
Mcginn-Desjardins-xxxx (I'm assuming this will be a baby shark line)

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

FORWARDS
Patrick Marleau ($6.900m) / Joe Thornton ($7.000m) / Teemu Selanne ($4.000m)
Ryane Clowe ($3.625m) / Logan Couture ($1.241m) / Martin Havlat ($5.000m)
Torrey Mitchell ($1.366m) / Joe Pavelski ($4.000m) / Michal Handzus ($2.500m)
Jamie McGinn ($0.680m) / Andrew Desjardins ($0.540m) / Mike Modano ($1.000m)
/ Frazer McLaren ($0.575m)

DEFENSEMEN
Dan Boyle ($6.666m) / Douglas Murray ($2.500m)
Brent Burns ($3.550m) / Marc-Edouard Vlasic ($3.100m)
Jason Demers ($1.250m) / Jim Vandermeer ($1.000m)
Justin Braun ($0.875m) / Mike Moore ($0.512m)

GOALTENDERS
Antti Niemi ($3.800m) / Antero Niittymaki ($2.000m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,682,501; BONUSES: $587,500
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $617,499

So everyone has been talking about who we can get for the bottom six. BUT, we still have about 5 mil in cap room for 2 players.

I say:
1) Keep Pavs and Mitchell on that third line and put Handzus on the wing.

2)Put McGinn on the 4th line with Dessy (I really like his play with Nichol and Mayers) and find a linemate for them. I chose Modano cuz I think it'll add a scoring touch to the 4th line while having one of the best mentors in the game. Also, Modano could be had for cheaper than last year where he barely played. Of course, this signing is hoping that Modano is relatively healthy.

3) Moore's spot/salary can be substituted with a forward, but I see Vandy as our #6 with Braun/Moore, McLaren (to fight) as the reserves.

4) This leaves about 4 mil for one spot left. I'm fine with saving, but I think getting a player sooner rather than later is always better for chemistry and play (in regards to understanding the system).
Selanne still has it, is looking to play, and if he and Joe can be a duo...look out. One year deal so we can resign Juicy and Burns to extensions.

Now we got depth up front, a solid corps for defenseman, and I'm find with a Niemi/Nitty combo (but hopefully Stalock can bounce back from his injury).

Yes?

wellwood is underrated but he doesn't fit in anywhere on this current sharks team. since we are going fast checking 3rd line, his undersize play wouldn't work well with zeus and mitchell. he's a decent playmaker, and positionally hes actually really quite good, but a 3rd line of zeus and mitchell needs a fast good checker on the rw.

Drew Reminds comments about a Scott Thornton type player is exactly what I was referring to yesterday when I mentioned they need a power forward type player on the 3rd line. That's why none of the FA look that appealing to me. I'm glad Pollack said DW is looking at trade options instead.

if youre thinking about Wellwood, you should really be thinking about Samsonov.

He's basically the upgraded version of Wellwood

They're both undersized guys who can't/won't hit, borderline 2nd line guys who do not thrive on 3rd/checking lines. Both deserve to be on bottom feeder teams that lack talent in the top 6, therefore giving them a chance to play their offensive games. The only difference is samsonov used to be good a long time ago, while kyle's best year was an 18 goal year when he got a crapload of powerplay time, he's always just been mediocre.

I agree with others who say we'd be better off with a scott thornton type, someone who can check/play defensively but also chip in offensively from time to time.

Yes?
I'm going to snap if one more person puts pavelski on the 3rd line after doug wilson's quote that explicitly said one of the reasons we moved seto and got handzus was so that we could put pavs back in the top six where he belongs...

Don't you realize the point dropoff for Pavs when you move him from having linemates like couture and havlat to handzus and mitchell?

edit: LMAO I didn't even notice that you had selanne written in on the top line, oh man you have no Idea how hard I'm dying of laughter right now!

Agreed. Chimera might be made available, he would be a perfect fit. Ideally my choice would have been Colby Armstrong but that didn't happen last year. Maybe someone should travel through time and bring back Gary Roberts from his Calgary days.
