Toronto Gets:
Prospect Brock Nelson
- a decent centre prospect who is young with size, looks like he will end up being a solid third line centre with max second line upside.
NYI get:
Mike Komisarek
TOR 2nd Round Pick 2012
TOR 4th Round pick 2012
This is my first proposal, so dont kill me too quickly. Reason i think this is a possibility is because Leafs have excess D-men and NYI need to hit the floor, they also get 2 picks that will be somewhat high in a solid draft.
Toronto needs all the big Centre prospects they can get their hands on, with hopes that if they stockpile enough at least 1 or 2 will work out.
I hope this doesnt look like a homer proposal, and feel free to coment on the picks.
Nelson is a former 1st rounder, though he was selected 30th overal. Toronto im expecting to finish +/- 7th in the east so the 2nd and 4th round pick should be pretty high.
Biggest issues i can see are, 1. Are the picks proper? i.e. is a 2nd and a 4th to much to give up?
Thanks for the feedback ahead of time, cheers!

Reason: Thanks for catching me 8BostonRocker24!!
Fixed the pick situation. I know its not allot for him, but he was the 30th overal pick.
If leafs finish with another seson like last year (which is entirely possible) it end up being..
Komi+39th overal+99th
for a 30th overal
I don't think Toronto should move any picks to get rid of Komisarek. We're not hurting for cap space, and having defensive depth is a good problem to have.
If the Islanders traded for Mike Komisarek it most likely would be something like Trent Hunter for Komi.
In all reality the Leafs are probably better off waiting one year then try to dump Komisarek when he has 2 years left on his deal at an actual salary of 3.5M(caphit of 4.5M). I believe he gets paid 5.5M this season which is to rich for alot of teams
There was a tweet saying Komisarek was in talks with a west team. As for this deal it's bad on both sides as I think Burke likes his picks and I don't think New York wants Komisarek unless there struggling to reach the Cap Floor which I don't think they are.

It was Hockey Break though, so was probably just nonsense.
Yeah, I can't see Toronto doing that. Nelson is a 'meh' prospect. If Komisarek doesn't prove his worth on the team, he'll get Jeff Fingered and end up in the minors. MLSE can afford to have bad contracts.
No chance from Toronto's POV. Not bad value-wise but Komi is one of Burke + Wilson's favs, he's a leader in the room and is a serviceable d-man. He is over-paid but that won't be a problem as we aren't near the cap, plus we can always bury him MLSE aren't skint. I'd consider it if the 2nd and 4th went Toronto's way.

So in other words, you want Nelson, a 2nd, and a 4th, which is another way of saying a 1st, a 2nd, and a 4th for Komisarek? Get real.
Plus Komisarek has a NMC, so it's going to be very difficult to send him to the minors.

How many ****ing times will it take for Leaf fans to understand that the Islanders DO NOT WANT Komi!? Seriously, this is the 2nd thread in as many days about it, and a million through out the season.
Komi and Kadri for Hunter, sure. Fine, we'll take Komi. otherwise stop it.

Ya I agree with this Komisarek sucks we don't want him, if you want to get rid of Komi look at the Panthers they are taking everyone these days.

Come on, I remember Botta telling a different story at the time. IIRC, the report was the Isles offered 5 mil.

I don't remember that at all. I'm pretty sure they were offering him ~$3 million, and they were barely in the running any more. It was between the Leafs and the Rangers I believe.

I don't even know if this guy is a leaf fan or not, haven't seen him. Nelson isn't someone you cry over considering his mediocre performance this year.
UPDATED at 5:55 pm – Here’s a theory. Islanders were never major players for Mike Komisarek, for reasons outlined the last few days on this blog. Everyone thinks today the Islanders are going hard after him. Brian Burke doesn’t like it. Blows away Islanders for Komisarek with mega offer. Toronto offer probably two years and a few mill more than what the Islanders would have signed the LIer for. In other news, Burkie is still telling anyone who’ll listen the Islanders are drafting Duchene and trading for Vinny.
In other words, Botta never said anything about the Islanders offering him $5+ million. Best I could find.

He was a freshman on a good college team, they never get top minutes unless they're projected super stars. Nelson should be better next season.

Brock Nelson had a fine year considering he was a true freshman straight out of high school playing in the WCHA on a pretty stacked team.
And they won't have any trouble getting to the floor. They still need to re-sign Bailey and Comeau to new contracts. After that they might be a million or two away if they add another player (which they probably will).
Halfway down somebody summarizes it. Significantly more than the 4 mil the Habs offered was what they reported. Makes sense, considering everybody thought the Isles were in on Komi in the days leading up to his signing.
Of course, none of this means they'd want him now. But still, there's no reason to throw around blanket denials, unless you've got other info.
