What do people expect from Voracek this year? I wager he improves a little over his columbus total, but am looking for more opinions.

I picked him up in a dynasty league so am wondering.

I hope he sticks on the top line with Giroux and JvR and flourishes. I'm hoping for 55-70 pts.

Since he is only signed for one more year, I kind of hope it would be in the lower end of those numbers. Not that I would mind it terribly if he would end up with 70 points (I doubt he'll do that though).

Where does this "Bryzgalov is bad in the playoffs" thing come from?

I'm thinking Voracek has a big, big year. He's shown over the past three seasons in Columbus that he's capable of big things. With his idol now in Philadelphia, I think this is the year that Voracek blossoms into a 25 goal/45 assist player. He should get between 18 to 19 minutes a night of ice time and he should also get 2nd unit power play time.

Once again, the question with Voracek, which is similar to JVR is, what does Laviolette do with him? Does Laviolette give him the ice time or does Laviolette decide that there's another right winger in the lineup who will get more ice time? That will be the big question.

Bryzgalov was gassed by the time the Coyotes got to the playoffs. 137 games played in two years while carrying a lame duck franchise to the playoffs is enough to gas any good player. I'm sure Ilya is going to enjoy playing 50 to 55 games a year here.

Moral plays a huge factor as well.... You can only carry a team so long before it becomes mentally exhausting. If the team plays well in front of him he will be motivated to be very good.

Exactly, and it doesn't help that Detroit played like an absolute buzzsaw in last season's 1st round.

He is going to get top 6 minutes and PP time, either playing alongside Scott Hartnell and Danny Briere OR James Van Riemsdyk and Claude Giroux.

My expectation is that he come close to his point totals from Columbus. I think he'll be a good pickup for your league.

Wade Belak reportedly found dead in a TOR condo. He'd been active on his twitter account as late as yesterday.

In case this hasn't been posted, Tim P. has an article on Fedoruk:

http://www.csnphilly.com/08/31/11/Fo...996&feedID=695

Quote:
This time, when Todd Fedoruk smiles, the teeth are all there.

The wonders of facial plastic surgery and dental work for a former Flyers’ enforcer, who is trying to return to the National Hockey League this fall on a tryout contract with Vancouver.

“I’d like the chance to get out there and play again,” said the 32-year-old winger, who’s been working since mid-July at Skate Zone.

“If I make it, it’s awesome. If I don’t, I can say I gave it my all … you don’t always get a second chance.”

This could be “The Fridge’s” last chance since being bought out of his contract in Tampa two years ago. He sat out all of last season wrestling personal “demons,” he said.

“I stayed with the family here in New Jersey,” said Fedoruk, who still owns a house in Mt. Laurel, N.J. “Worked on other things, had nothing to do with the game. I trained with my wife. We bought a gym membership. That was about it.”

Fedoruk needed time away from the game. Between 1999-2000 and the end of the 2004-05 season, the left winger was part of the Flyers organization, either as a Phantom, a call-up, or a regular roster player with the Flyers.

Alright, best news was the TOI that he will be getting (or expected to) that I have heard (referring to Voracek).

I picked him up for 3 years @ 3.25 mill in my league, so took a bit of a risk but who knows.

"Proud to be an American"

Congratulations Ian on becoming a United States citizen:

Quote:
"I am very proud to be an American," Laperriere said. "I met a lot of great people here throughout my career and a lot of nice military people. It is contagious meeting those military people and seeing the sacrifice that they make for this country and how proud they are to be from this country. I have been here for 16 years and have lived most of my adult life in the United States. The way people here are proud of living in this country rubbed off on me and my family and that was just one of the many reasons we decided to apply for United States Citizenship.

I think voracek will do better on a line with hartnell and briere than jvr and giroux.

I think they should try these lines in training camp.

JVR-Giroux-Briere
Hartnell-Schenn-Voracek
Simmonds-Couturier-Nodl
Sestito-Betts-Talbot

As noted, no Jagr present

Also, tough spot to force Schenn into right away.

Jagr fits with Briere and Hartnell as an elite cycling line who can all work well in corners.

Voracek, JvR, and Giroux hopefully form a potential elite scoring line through playmaking ability and skill.

Schenn, Simmonds, and another (who can score preferably, which is why I keep plugging Read in. Wellwood works too, or Couturier for a few games before the juniors recall) is a wild card line. They'd have to be able to play very good defense, while still contributing consistently offensively (ala Richards and his carousel of linemates).

Finally, a line of Talbot, Holmstrom, and Nodl will do the same as the 3rd line, but have higher contributions to the defensive side of the ice than the offensive side, and also be a forechecking force to behold. Being able to have Betts, Shelley, Rinaldo/Sestito step in to fill a roster spot when need be is a nice luxury. But I think most teams will follow the mold of the Bruins and Canucks last season, and roll 4 competent lines that can be played at any time of the game. If we have Shelley, Rinaldo, or Sestito in the lineup, that may take away from potential ice time for that 4th line.

Interesting. The Flyers' website updated broadcast outlets for preseason games and VERSUS is listed for three home games.

This is the updated schedule based on each team's site. For whatever reason, teams only list home and national outlets on their sites.

Hopefully some of the pre-season games that aren't on TV will be broadcasted on the Flyers site.
