I liked Fehr, but he was injury prone. With him gone, and Alzner not signed, Hannan probably not re-signing, this team looks very incomplete to make a cup run. Still needed is the 2c and possibly a another physical, stay-at-home dman. It should be interesting if anything else is done with this team.
I truly believe Alzner is going to be resigned and a core player. Nice to see dead weight leaving the roster too. I just can't believe those rumors that Alzner will get dealt. To do something like that is counter productive to what they are trying to accomplish and they will never will a SC making those kind of trades, ever.
or he could miss the net as he does most times, not even creating a rebound for others.
I'm not a huge fan of the player but I blame the coaching staff for this area most of all. That's not a point of emphasis for anyone really and generally they lack poise and crispness when attacking. Too often it's just loosey-goosey freestyling lacking in discipline.
Semin could be a craftier offensive player for sure but we haven't really seen a team culture that prides itself on a maturing puck possession game. That's partially on the players and their professionalism but also the standards kept by the coaching staff. Puck possession standards went in the toilet last season and without that changing it's hard to see this team getting over the hump. Less emotion, more structure, more cold-blooded attacking. It's not easy becoming a machine but that's the sort of efficiency and discipline they must strive for. The starting point is a more serious approach in preparation from everyone.
Nope, like the hundreds of other wasted opportunities throughout the year when he does shoot the puck into the defenseman (or tries that stupid, predictable move and gets rejected or fails to pull it off).

Ovechkin's game is firing away. I agree though, he needs to have a bit more...control over his selection. What I'd like to see is him and #19 not being so predictable coming into the zone. Nick drops it off and OV shoots all within a couple seconds. Teams have been baring down on that.

The chickens are coming home to roost. McPhee played games with Alzner, and Alzner is going to make him pay for it. If Alzner forces a trade then the "re-build" (which ought to be called "build" since the Caps haven't been too hot...ever) then the BUILD starts to look ugly. Ovie is a stud. Backstrom, hopefully turns his game around, Carlson looks very good. With Green struggling, Semin dreaming, Varly and Fehr gone...it'll be a big mess if they botch the relationship with a key player like Alzner.

Wait, are there any reports saying that this is the case?
Cannot believe Hannan hasn't been signed by anyone yet. The only thing I'm thinking of is that we are in talks with him because there is no reason he doesn't have a team yet

George McPhee is the devil!
Sorry but that "chickens coming home to roost" line always reminds me of this scene from the Waterboy.
LOL at the chickens coming home to roost. Yeah, because the Caps run such a ramshackle organization. The conspiracy theories are all sorts of pathetic.
Remember all this **** about offer sheets and trades when Ovie was an RFA? Yeah, how'd that work out?
Negotiation is part of the process, especially for a player who's actual worth outpaces what his statistics dictate his contract should be.
