Any ideas for a trade with Green for a 2C? Who needs a guy like Green?
Green isn't going anywhere. McPhee felt our biggest problem after the Tampa series was a lack of puck moving defenseman and no one is better at puck moving from the back end then Green.

You do know Green is one of the best defenseman in the league right? improved his defence significantly and his offence is something that carlson or widemann cannot do. also i think orlov is 2 years away from the show..semin doesnt mean as much to the team as Green does

Heard the Langenbrunner info. earlier, but first mention I have seen of Arnott to STL
http://twitter.com/#!/DarrenDreger Dregger is reporting Arnott got a 1 year deal worth just under $3 million.

Someone said it earlier in this thread that Alzner is night the type of Dman that is going to get an offer sheet from another team. Barring some other GM with a vendetta against GMGM, heh.

I wouldn't even entertain trading Green unless Orlov's dev down in Hershey shows some major league offensive game.

Just because Im bored and havent done it yet...how about a lineup with the existing roster. Not even going to get into Caps space and all that crap, but I am going to go ahead and trade Schultz for whatever just to make it simple.

Ovie - Backstrom - Fehr
Semin - Mojo - Knuble
Brouwer - Laich - Ward
Chimera - Haplern - Beagle
Sjogren/Hendricks

Hamrlik - Green
Alzner - Carlson
Wideman - Erskine
McNeill

Vokoun
Neuvirth

Yay? Nay?

Push Hendricks into the starting lineup for Beagle and I'm good.

I think F16 needs a Backis to get him goals, but at the same time I can't see him on the first line.

So the last thing I saw on the Sloan was he was on waivers? Was there a follow up or update that I missed? Is he gone?

I think the question is, if we trade Schultz for futures and LTIR Poti, and Alzner gets Schultz-level money ($2.75ish), do we use the remaining cap space on a youngster like McNeill, or do we go out and find some veteran on the cheap. Someone like Rivet, or Staios, or Hnidy, or Mara could be had on a 1 yr/$800k contract and bring some veteran leadership for only $250k more than McNeill.

Knuble is slow and old, Fehr is injury prone, and Johanson is a kid and untested. Something needs to be added to that top 6 for the caps to have any chance at a cup this year. Either an upgrade at 2C or one of the wingers. I really think we need to trade Semin + schulz/fehr for two players, a decent center and a young, fast 20goal+ RW. We have too many holes up there now.

We saw how slow and ineffective Arnott and Knuble were against Tampa. Are we relying on Johanson to have a break out season? Knuble is probably going to be slower this year again! Fehr is busted up. I don't like this line up one bit. Trade away George!

You've upgraded our bottom 6, now do something about our top 6 and I don't mean Laich at 2C. Been there done that. He's not going to magically become a 2C with skill and scoring. Laich is a grinding winger.

Semin + Schulze for a 2C and a RW.

Come on George! What are you waiting for. Let's go for it this year. You know you're not going to win a cup with such weak centers like that and Semin is prone to disappearing. Anyone could see that.

Meh. Maybe. They should shuffle McNeill and or Orlov back and forth as needed. Collins is back and will not be subject to re entry waivers so thats another option.

Veteran presence on the blue line is becoming a thing of the past as these guys get more seasons under their belt. I would have loved to keep Hannan, but if they are not, go with that they have

Someone would have to move over but I'd take Sopel on a one-year deal to help further spread around Schultz's PK role. Definitely getting ahead of ourselves, though. Martinek signed with CBJ, likely crossing off another trade partner.

I really like the idea of a Laich-Halpern-Ward late minute shutdown line. My concern with the rest of the bottom six is being defensively responsible and managing the puck well. Beagle can hold his own and Sjogren in time should be trustworthy. I'm not sure Chimera and Hendricks cutting it in that regard and it's why moving the former makes a lot of sense. I'd love to see Eakin gunning for 3/4LW and showing that he's physically capable of being a responsible energy option in fairly short order.

I'm revisiting my position that Laich won't jump Mojo as the #2 center, although I think Mojo takes over the position at some point absent a trade for another center. Here's what I think Bruce will go with to start the season though:

Ovie - Backstrom - Knuble
Brouwer - Laich - Semin
Ward - Mojo - Fehr
Chimera - Halpern - Hendricks
Sjogren - Beagle

Hamrlik - Green
Alzner - Carlson
Schultz - Wideman
Erskine

Do you remember half a year ago we had MoJo vs MP conversation?

To the topic: I believe Semin trading rumors are the smoke screen for Fehr trade value lowering every second.

Too thin at D. It's a fine corps when healthy, but when will that ever happen?

I agree. Why on earth would they play Laich as a 2C when we all know he is a grinder and not a set up man?

We need a 2C folks. Brower is a grinder, and we lack another skill guy in the top 6. Can't see us winning a cup with Johanson or Laich as a 2C feeding a lazy Semin or a guy like Brower.

Time to trade Semin folks. We need a stud 2C or a mid range C + 20g/y winger.

If we keep him, when he goes down to injury like he always does or disappears, we are left with a second line of Laich and some scrubs. We need to use Semin as a centerpiece of a trade to get another center and a winger.

OV -- BK -- New 20G young speedster
Laich - New 2C -- Knuble
Ward - Majo -- Brower
Chimera - Halpern - Hendrix

Trade: Semin, Fehr.
