Good luck to Kolbe. Played against him at a PCOI game. Not a huge fan of the play by play..probably the years of listening to Weber back when there were barely half the games televised. Those west coast late games were frakking never televised.

Walton would be my choice as well.
Up next..Locker..seriously he needs to go.
Never understood the Locker hate. He loves the team without being a total home and is a decent analyst. Yeah, he gets a little drunk, but seriously, he has great chemistry with Joe B. and knows the team history and the game of hockey.
As much as some complain about Kolbe, is head and shoulders above the clown Dave Mishkin from TB. That guy actually screams into the microphone when the Bolts score a goal. He has to be the most unprofessional radio play by play announcer there is in the league.
not that my opinion matters on this, but it is fine with me if the radio posts get merged into the new thread...didn't realize the news was that big, ha ha
I skim twitter not hockeyjobs.com
And fwiw, didn't catch this one on a retweet; I was doing a search trying to track down FA camp invites.
Sounds like Kolbe's always on 1-year deals. Is it agiven that he isn't going to sign on again? I wonder when they usually work out extensions for that type of position.
Depends on if he files for arbitration or if someone gives an offer sheet.
The Caps would never win a cup with Kolbe calling the games on radio.
Boom! Headshot!
Walton...send in the resume!
looking at the posting, this was not steve kolbe's job description. they are changing and increasing the workload of this position, i'd image to justify a budget to hire someone good.
best i could tell kolbe was a part time contract employee that did pretty much just the games on the radio.
this is to me what semin being gone is for erocaps. this is freedom.
Never listened to Kolbe on the radio, but bummer to read he's out like that. Having said that, based on his converastions on the Sports Fix, now the last excuse he had preventing him from pursuing a professional Bass Fishing career is now gone. Hope he siezes the day.

i hate mishkin's screaming, but its his signature and as a result of his popularity the tv guy peckham screams when he didnt in the past.
beyond that though, mishken describes the game.
i was driving home to nc from the race track in atlanta the night the caps played a back and forth game v the flyers. i could listen to 1500 most of the way. THREE FREAKING TIMES while Kolbe yammered about some show prep he had done he says out of nowhere, "shot score!!!". This means three times a goal was scored and I had know idea even which team had scored.
the nhl network ran the top 10 goals of the week as a promo during commercial breaks. they use the video with the radio calls. the ovechkin johansson two on zero breakaway goal was shown. kolbe called that goal without mentioning johansson at all. he called it as an ovechkin solo breakaway.
up to know kolbe kept that job because he was available and cheap.
There's the big offseason culture change move we were expecting!

I disagree with Locker. I think he and Joe B are the best. Honestly, there really isn't many that good with this kind of stuff. CBC used to have some good guys, but they either died, retired, or went to TSN.
Sucks about Kolbe. He got a notorious rap on these boards but he was alright. Keep in mind he is pretty much the only Caps radio guy I have heard since I started following the team in the 2000's. (And I started following all sports in general in the 2000's)
Thorne did radio for Sunday Night baseball on ESPN Radio for a few years but is more of a TV guy.
Wouldn't object to calling up the guy from the minors to call Caps games. Maybe they could put Joe Beninati on the radio, some NHL clubs use the same feed for both TV and radio (I know Buffalo just puts the MSG feed on the radio) Also would not be opposed to bringing Weber, a guy who pretty much shouldn't have been dismissed like he was, back. The sad thing is, as a Caps fan since the 2000's, I really haven't had a chance to hear any Weber at all. I would love for him to come back for a year or two.
PS: Might also want to strengthen the signal for Caps radio because it is basically unlistenable at night, no matter who is doing the game
Probably a caps radio guy generation gap here of those that listened to Weber versus Kolbe..understandable in the common sense manner. Geezers vs. the Younglings..the age old battle .
Who's the guy you hear in the Verizon Center bathrooms? That's the only audio feed I've heard. If I'm not at the game I really only watch on TV if it's available. Haven't used a radio since I stopped driving to work.
I bought the android NHL ap this year specifically to avoid Kolbe. Best $20 I've spent in ages. That guy is objectively terrible.
Also, I like checking out the out of town radio guys.
I have Tune In Radio (able to get all hockey networks too) for the iPhone and I hated listening to Kolbe. He was so boring. Let's hope the next one is better.
