Him, his fiancee and his agent all came down I think, on his dime. He was walking around downtown and got handshakes and hellos and "welcome to Winnipeg"'s. Someone also paid for their dinner when they went out to eat.

I was walking home from work on Main that day, he must have ate at Earls. I wanted to say so much to him, shake his hand, get a picture. I clammed up though and just said "Welcome to Winnipeg man"

Great contract! A few weeks ago I figured he was due $4 to 4.5M per year but I was getting nervous that figure would go north of $5M or higher given some of the lousy deals that have been inked around the league this free agency season. Since Ladd was only a year away from UFA you know he and his agent had to factor that into his asking price.

Anyway great signing for the Moose. Love Andrew Ladd, been a fan of his since his Carolina Hurricane days. I love the Canes because my second all-time favorite player wore No. 10 and 21... who would that be?
why the hell are you calling them the Moose?

The $ on this deal is very good.

But what makes me smile is that we signed him for 5 years. When you really stop and think about it, like others have said, he flew here on his own dime and met with Management. He took a tour of the city with his wife, and listened to what the team had to say about their vision, culture, and where they want to go.

After that, Ladd signs a contract where he is giving up 4 years of his UFA status to play in Winnipeg.

What does that tell you? It tells me that he liked what he heard from Chevy, Zinger, and Chipman. He liked the atmosphere from the management, and he liked the situation that the team is in. He also must like (or not hate) the city of Winnipeg like many would have us believe.

To me, at the end of the day, Andrew Ladd, a 2 time Stanley Cup champion who could have gone to arbitration to force a 1 year deal and then bolt from Winnipeg, decided that he liked what he sees here and has committed 5 years to the cause.

That to me says more than all the naysayers regarding the viability of getting players to play for the Winnipeg Jets.

Given that he signed for five years, I take it that his review of the city, building, etc. with every single player on the team was a positive one.

Sounds like a fair deal to me. He'll have a lot on his plate being the captain of this young team and in this particular market. It's a fishbowl and he'll be the face that'll have to answer to the media in good and bad times.

I'm going to get a Ladd jersey.

Since we're still in the market for a top six forward, maybe Ladd can convince his old teammate Cory Stillman to sign with us.

To me, it tells me that he came here in late spring and not winter. Just jokes, I love the Peg in -40 and +40(humidex).

About a million per year overpaid, but better than some of the deals that we've seen this summer. Very happy to have Ladd locked up long term. Chevy and co have slightly redeemed themselves with this one.

Ladd, Buff and Enstrom are signed long term. That's the core of the team. Excellent.

This is a nice signing for both.
I was guessing 4-4.5 per.
And takes a couple UFA years too.
Good on ya Chevy

Ooops! I am so used to calling the home team the Moose. Long time season ticket holder. It'll probably happen again.

Enstrom has 2 years left before he's a UFA, not very long term.

He's missing the captain "C" on his Moose jersey.

I did the mishap for a fellow poster.

1 million a year overpaid?? You think he's only worth 3.5 million a year?

Please tell me which contracts you think he is comparable to at 3.5 million.

Tanguay and Stajan at 3.5 million?? lol

Jason Blake = 4
Pomminville = 5.3
Stafford = 4
Boyes = 4
Langkow = 4.5
Tuomo Ruutu = 3.8

And that's just 4 or 5 teams. Tuomo Ruutu is making 3.8 and you think Ladd should get 3.5?

And Enstrom is not locked up long term. He only has 2 years left on his deal. Not exactly leaving on the next train, but not long term either. If I had my way I would sign him to an extension (if possible) next summer before he even could go to UFA. We won't like the results of that bidding war.
