The David Poile Roster Move Game

inspired by fcm, or glenn, or whatever alias he is using....

game starts with a good move that Poile made then someone follows with a poor move that Poile made.

i will start:

A good: drafted patric hornquist dead last in the draft.

Picked Brian Finley with the 6th overall pick in the 1999 draft.

Traded for Steve Sullivan in 03 04. He helped dramatically in our playoff push that year and helped us to our first playoff birth. He became a fan favorite here and a Masterton winner.

Drafted Ryan Suter ahead of higher ranked guys like Dion Phaneuf and Brayden Coburn

Thomas Vokoun from the Canadiens

My prediction for this game is that as soon as someone says Legwand, the game will be over since we will be unsure if it was a good or bad move.

Ronning for The Drunk defenseman whose name escapes me. And then I just remembered, Karlahti.

Pekka freaking Rinne.

Honestly, I don't think there is much to criticize. The only feasible arguments revolve around passivity, inability to acquire a goal-scorer, and a few rich forward contracts. Poile has been pretty rock solid.

So who messed up already? Is Hlavac good or bad? If he's good then Pekka can't come after him. Just saying. If Hlavac was bad then it shouldn't have been after the Ronning trade.

Getting a 1st round pick back from Philly for the rights to Timonen and Hartnell and having that pick become Blum. (2 goods in one fail swoop)

not sure VV is a bad move by poile... trotz just refused to play him. IIRC Poile basically apologized to VV.. only time I know of a public rift between trotz and poile

Is Poile the one who hired Trotz? If so, that for good.

Trading the rights to two UFA's that Leipold was not going to let Poile re-sign for a 1st round pick that has burst onto the scene and solidified himself on our 2nd pairing is a fail? I don't follow your logic here...

I mean the entire deal ... a not even close to 50% Forsberg + a 1st for kimmo, hartnell, parent and i believe upshall was included, right?
