They aquired Corvo, but I agree that they need somebody who can really anchor the second pairing. I don't think he is to be found on the UFA market though. He is going to come in a trade and I am not sure it happens until mid season. I am also not even sure if it happens this year. I think Chia may be looking to shake out all those UFA's and RFA's he has coming up at the end of next season before overcommitting to a defenseman. I also think he is on record as expecting the cap to be lower next year and may be acting cautiously because of the expected changes in the CBA.
Probably all very smart moves, even if some of them aren't what the fans want right now.
Colborne or Cup? Not even a hesitation. A prospect for a Cup is a trade I do every day. I will trade one of our providence forwards to Toronto every year for nothing if it gives the Bruins a Cup every June. The annual prospect offering to the Mecca of hockey for the Cup works fine with me. Hell, I'd even just give them the prospect for free at the deadline if it meant that the Bruins win the Cup that year.
Rinse and repeat. Boston is overflowing with forward prospects and young forwards already established as cup winners before their prime. Spooner for a Cup? Sure. Knight for a Cup? Alrighty. Thats two more cups on top of this one and the young core in place.
Are you serious? You'd rather they held on to Colborne and a low 1st round pick, and not won?
Of course they lost some value for a rental. That is the very nature of that sort of trade! Cripes, maybe Chiarelli shouldn't pull off the occasional larcenous trade - some seem to think he should do it all the time.
We did. It more than makes up for the fact we lost Wheeler 2.0 but with less ability in the corners for a rental.
Fixed it for you.
The idea of the game is to win the Stanley Cup, or did you miss that memo? Trading two picks and a prospect - basically three pieces of potential - for a player that helped the team win a cup?! Every day of every week. Potentially winning for actually winning? You even have to ask that question???
You're going to have to get over our loss of Joe eventually Mione, I doubt very much he would have stuck in here anyways, Blake Wheeler 2.0 (and I was sad to see wheels go) But we just won the cup doing it the way Claude and Chia had wanted. If we didnt have Tyler Seguin, Jared Knight, Ryan Spooner, Alex Kohklachev, and the list goes on for forward prospects, losing Colborne for Kaberle would be tough to swallow - fact is, we do have those players AND we just won the cup. Easy decision right there
