As I see it, he won't sign long term in any case.
He is going to arb, will be awarded no more then 6.5 and sign for a year and stay RFA.
And then he will watch: management activity, team and players development, ownership commitment, fanbase support, top six coming our way, Rads coming home and so ...
After all that he will make his decision before season 12-13 whether he is Preds for long, or he would not be satisfied with what team would've done and not confident in reaching his goals with this team and will leave.
I believe his decision will reflect on Rinne and Suter to stay or go as well.
And maybe some others...

QFT.

It's a bit short sighted to view this as the only reason.

Then that'll keep the theory alive that this season is a wash, either good or bad, and that Poile is gearing up for one hell of a year next year (ie - return of the great russian)

I was looking at the Devils board for a minute and yes, they are freaking out as well. Parise's arbitration date is the day after Shea's. They are stressed pretty bad over there.

Can this franchise risk a "wash" season??? Still, the biggest disappointment to me about the front office activities from the summer of 2011 is how they don't seem to be riding the wave of the most successful season in the history of the Nashville Predators.

I don't know. They're adding seats but not offense. Time will tell.

If I had to guess, shea will sign a one year deal or a two year deal worth 7M and we will not make a move for a top six forward.

I don't think we are that stable to have a wash season. I mean non hockey people were coming up to me knowing that I go to the games and talking hockey with me and wanting to go to the games because we(Preds) were the talk of the town. To just let the wave die not just die but just go away would defeat the whole purpose. I know the Preds play within a budget but you can't always win every year the same way you won it the year before.

Signing Weber to a cap hit of $7m would just get the team to the cap FLOOR. You know they're not going to run a whole season at the floor. It just doesn't fit the standard operating procedure of the team. So be patient and wait for an acquisition. It may not be until the trade deadline, but something will happen.

Agreed. Small market teams like ours operate with windows of opportunity.

We've got a window right now where we've got 3 legit top 5 talents at their position locked up to relatively cheap contracts. Odds are, by '13-'14, one of those guys is gone, and the two remaining will become very expensive for us.

We can't count on a farm system to continually churn out high level prospects. A couple of missed picks, a trade here or there, and the cupboard gets bare quick.

Then what? A rebuild is inevitable (it is for everyone in the NHL, small and big markets) and not necessarily a bad thing. Wouldn't it be better to look back and say - we really went for it, rather than we were happy with a 6 seed and being fodder for Vancouver/San Jose?

My latest discusses the potential issues between Weber and the Predators. I also highly recommend Kevin Allen's latest Rink Rap as it's exclusively regarding the Weber negotiations.

Wonder how much he would get up front as a signing bonus?

Assuming that's true, Stammer and Doughty both get 7.5 mil. Seems like the obvious number for Weber.

At a significant discount. Gonna be a very interesting trade deadline this year.

I don't see Poile going after Parise. First of all, the price will likely be high, especially if the Devils are contending for a playoff spot. Second, I doubt Poile will want to take on another offseason contract situation when he has to potentially deal with Suter and Rinne.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

It will help that Parise's best pal is also in Nashville (Suter) in terms of if we ever got him to sign here.

Timeline of events:
Weber demands top forward to come here (really conditional to him signing).

Opportunity has arisen (not a perfect one though).

Eklund just tweeted:

in hockey related news...expect some possible movement tomorrow on Shea Weber...working on a story when I get home from the family reunion..

I know it's Eklund, and he's been known to be wrong, but still. Movement?! What does that mean?!

Eklund has had a surprisingly better year with his rumors. But idk he could be right, somethings may happen tmrw. But I think he just wants as many hits for his site as he can get
