I am good friend of Darcy's and Shaynes, and Shayne was mentioning just the other day that Darcy really beat up his body for MLSE. Not that he regrets it in any way, but that he really pushed his body hard.

Shayne mentioned that most guys after pushing themselves constantly from basically the time they can walk to the day they retire, are pretty "worn out" by the time they retire.

I have a friend who tests them and treats a lot of the NHLers, and she says that most of them, push themselves so hard, to get to where they are, that their internal organs have the lifeforce of a 90 year old man between games.

As an ex pro athlete myself, I can say that getting up in the morning is a challenge a lot of times and pain is a badge worn daily.

Darcy sacrificed himself for this team. He should be appreciated.

I went to an autograph signing once at a BMO, and was surprised how slight the guy was.

It was the bad decision to buy him out.

Leafs never made the playoffs after the buy-out and ended up being a worse team and are still on the hook for his cap hit.

Hindsight but there was no benefit in buying him out.

He's a scout's dream in the way he prepares himself and plays an unselfish game, making smart decisions with the puck. With his bloodlines, he certainly understands what it will take to make it at the next level.
