I never even noticed that haha, I am an Alumni of UND and got to watch him play in college, looking back on it I was a bit spoiled. For $75 a year in season tickets I got to see Toews, Parise, Zajac, Oshie, Greene, Gregs etc... Really was a joy to watch these guys.

If he is indeed potentially ready to contend for a roster spot, then the 3rd line LW would be a nice, comfortable spot for him.

It was a false alarm. Gregoire has not signed with the Jets.

Via UND's Sports Information Director on Twitter:

Quote:
Not sure how it happened, but Gregoire news is FALSE ALARM. I pre-wrote that article, as I often do, to be ready. Not sure why it activated.
Quote:
Any mention of Jets in the article was just for purpose of body of article, and would be replaced depending on who he actually signs with.
Quote:
For the record, I have ZERO insight into who Gregoire might sign with. In fact I told him today not to tell me, just to tell me when close.

I would not all be surprised if he did sign with the Jets though.

Heck of a program UND has grooming that many studs/solid NHL'ers. That alone gives some promise and credibility to Gregoire. Would love for him to pan out.

Agree 100%, if he isn't good enough for the 3rd line yet, then he would be better off in the AHL getting more ice time.

well if he were to make the team next year the best part about kids coming from US College hockey is they are more mature so him being a NHL rookie next year at 22 makes a big difference compared to a kid making it as a 18 year old

I think for the time being we will leave this open as a speculation thread. If and when the time comes to change it to confirmed, we'll do so, and if he signs elsewhere we will close the thread.

This is a prospect the organization very well may sign, and, as shown in this thread many of us are excited at that thought and hoping it does indeed happen.

So, for the time being, its all speculation.

They've already had meetings with Gregoire:

Quote:
NOTES: The Jets could be considering adding some Manitoba content when free agency starts later this week. They had a meeting at the draft with Winnipegger Jason Gregoire, 22, who was drafted by the New York Islanders in 2007. Gregoire, a heady, smart left-winger, went unsigned and will leave the University of North Dakota after three years to become an NHL free agent.

Could it be that the signing is not official yet and someone might have jumped the gun on the article? I have a strong feeling that's the case.

IMO, I think the story is true but for some reason UND is backtracking.

Maybe the deal is close but not official yet?

I find UND's claim that it was a pre-written article a but suspicious.

yeah the part where it says he had no idea how the article was "activated" sounds pretty suspicious to me.

If anyone is that interested, they can tweet Gregoire and ask him if he's signed with us.

Looks like the sun is reporting he signed with us.
That looks like pretty good confirmation to me.

http://www.winnipegsun.com/2011/07/0...igns-with-jets

That's a great signing, happy to hear it. The Jets get a good prospect that could very well develop into an NHL caliber player... for nothing. Great move TSNE, keep it up!

I was feeling sooooo excited for this.

I really hope it comes to fruition. Although it would make the Jets LW pretty deep and the RW look barren.

So, official? The Winnipeg Suns article appears legit.
