No clue. He is a central defender so I doubt it is him.

Working on the #WhitecapsFC DP player signing tomorrow. Source has told me it will NOT be Hargreaves. So many names rumored right now.

Looks like its the african.

Houssine Kharja... ? Probably too good for the MLS though.

Marc Weber seems to think it'll be a forward

Another name I saw brought up on Twitter: Benjani. Became a free agent just this month.

Appiah would be an awesome signing.

Yobo would be a great defender at the MLS level, but I don't think this is something that we need.

No thanks to Hargreaves. I don't care so much about his decision to renounce Canada, but the guy is physically done.

Apparently, from a West African country. Lots of speculation but no one seems to fit perfectly yet.

Going by Udoh's hints he throwing out on twitter, Peter Utaka fits the bill. Forward, scored 20 goals in all competitions last season, and I am just guessing he captained the u-17 nigerian national team. Also he plays in Denmark so a move to mls is definitely not a step down and almost surely a step up. Going by his wikipedia page (I know, I know) he is unhappy in Denmark and rumor is he left the club on July 1st to pursue an offer. Hmmmmmmmm...

More bigsoccer detective work....

Honestly, for a team like the Caps (and MLS) I like the DP that is young and has room to grow and maybe can make a sell on profit in a few years (though he might be a little to old for the third).

He could be perfect. Koffie sitting a little bit deeper in the middle, Jarju up high. Could be very good.

I'm personally not a fan of the signing. Our forwards aren't the biggest issue that needs addressing, and this signing must feel like criticism to Camilo and Salgado.

I'm also not sure if he's worth a DP slot. His club career is not exactly stellar. I don't have access to games in the Belgian second league, but I'd like to think that the MLS is a little bit superior to that level.

Man, if the club continues to be run like this, I think they'll start losing a lot of the casual fans the first month of the season won over (if they haven't already).

He played as a midfield before joining his Belgian club and he plays there with Gambia so hopefully he'll be used as an attacking mid. It's much better to bring in a guy like this with something still to prove than some over the hill player just for the name. This season is a write-off and Jarju will add something big for next year.

Some more details on Jarju:

http://whitecapsbeat.blogspot.com/20...r-african.html

A couple of interesting quotes:

Quote:
Jarju, also known as Toubabo, is versatile enough to play anywhere along the midfield as well as up front as a striker. In addition to his goal scoring prowess in Belgium, the Gambian international has the skills to play in the central midfield. For the national squad, Jarju plays that position and they rely on him to control and distribute the ball from the midfield which is partly why he has only scored twice in 16 matches for Gambia.
Quote:
At first the six foot striker/midfielder was looking to sign an extension with the hopes of acquiring a Belgian passport but apparently things did not work. Jarju didn’t show up to preseason training and there were rumours of offers from abroad including one from a English Championship squad. Unfortunately for him because of Gambia's low ranking he would not be able to go to England without a European passport.
Regarding the position, I still it doesn't make sense to sign a natural striker if it's to play him out of position, even if he is comfortable in that position. Ideally, if you're looking to fill a certain position in mind, you go for a player who is a natural. That he plays for the Gambian national team really doesn't mean anything - it's one of the worst teams in the African continent.

The bit about his transfer rumour is interesting, although it doesn't mean much without knowing which English Championship club were looking to sign him. But I would say that it is astute to go for a player whose nationality makes him difficult to play in the higher-profile league due to a lack of work permit or European passport - as long as the player is any good. Until I see what he brings to the table, I'm skeptic.
