Columbus didn't qualify him. He's currently a UFA. If I had to speculate, he'll wind up in Europe sooner or later.

I don't think it would hurt the Flyers to sign him cheap. We need young dmen for when Pronger and Timonen retire. Could be good if he just changes scenery

I would love for a team in the Central to sign him, playing against this stiff six times a year would be awesome. Alas, no team in the division would be stupid enough to sign him

Yep.

I still laugh (and I don't mean this as a slight since all NHL teams do this to their players) but Stralman was traded to Calgary for a pick and some Calgary fans hyped him up and said they destroyed Toronto in the deal getting the next premier NHL offensive d-man for nothing.

A month later he gets traded to Columbus for a pick.

He wasn't in Columbus. He couldn't defend, he lost his shot and didn't pass well at all. With Stralman QBing the power play, Columbus was 14% on the pp.

In 51 games he had 1 goal 17 assists for 18 points and was - 11. He just didn't show up.

I had great hopes for him. He does seem like a really good guy.

He didn't get an offer because he sucks. This video is a more accurate depiction of Stralman.

Yeah, I don't know why he didn't fit in with the Jackets.

He always played solid for the Leafs.

As a Jets fan, I'd rather have him than Randy Jones

I wouldn't be surprised if he went the KHL route. I think he'd do very well there.

I think it's the smaller ice. People don't realize how hard it is to learn on international ice, then come here and play on the smaller NHL ice. The skill just doesn't translate.

It seemed like he translated his game to the NHL just fine last year, but had a year in which he regressed and the team decided to move in another direction. IF a team that wants help on the powerplay and doesn't want to blow their wad on a defensemen and massively over pay, adding a guy like Stralman for dirt cheap to be the 7th guy isn't a bad idea.

I mean MA Bergeron still has a job and he's even worse defensively than Stralman is.

He seems like someone the Red Wings would pick up and turn into a 40-point star.

That was always a misquote from his swedish coach. But yeah, I still think he can be an effective NHLer. He definitely hasn't developed like I'd hoped he would though.

With all the cap space they have, the DRW haven't even found a way to replace Rafalski's offense yet. Giving Stralman secondary PP minutes with someone like Stuart couldn't be too bad, could it? They've signed some one-dimensional defensemen this off-season (out of character for Holland) - Commodore, White, etc.

If they do that - especially after signing Commie - you'd be able to hear the laughter in Columbus from about two thousand miles away.

"Detroit patches their D by signing Columbus's rejects."

Careful....us Oiler fans were laughing when they picked up Cleary and Conklin over the past few years. Look what happened there...

Is it just me, or is the only player playing that game who is presently with the Leafs Grabovski? Keeping in mind he was still with the Habs at that point.

Watching this guy play was utterly maddening, he hit less often than most scoring wingers yet he once demolished Patrick Kane with a beauty of a hipcheck. He had a decently accurate shot from the point, but if he was pressured he would either turn the puck right over or backtrack out of the zone. He was typically a pylon on defense but would sometimes use very sound positioning to force someone off the puck and make you look twice to make sure it was him. My guess is SEL, where he'll probably put up a bunch of points.

Two years ago he came in and helped the PP, was 6-28 34 in 73 games. Signed a one year deal just before going in to the arbitration hearing. Everyone figured he would come out last year and prove he was worth a multi-year deal. But he just plain disappeared. Nothing. There were some sinus infection problems but it was just awful. I wish him well, nice guy just didn't hack it last year.

With Kaberle gone I believe Luke Schenn is the longest serving current Leaf.
