Michael Blunden is a former mid 2nd round draft pick and was highly rated...certainly much more so than Ryan Russel who is an ok AHLer thus far...
Blunden trade is good, he adds size, work ethic, skating, right handed shot...yes adds pressure to White, might even replace him...but PG is definitely bringing ammunition in the grit/toughness department in the form of non goonery with players can kinda play...in their respective role and line...Also...detractors of this trade should note that Blunden may very well become and is better than Ryan White who at this moment remains unsigned and potentially hung up over the semantics of 1 way or 2 way contract, PG has really put White in his place...because I believe Blunden has a two way contract?
TK wasn't a great fighter either, but personally I liked him because despite absolutely sucking at it, he was a team player and stood up for his teammates. Sometimes it's not about winning the fight, it's about showing up.

To me that's more important than winning all your fights. BGL never lost but he never went out of his way to intimidate anybody that laid cheap shots or was too rambunctious out there.
You can add Emelin to that category as well, his career was almost ended during a fight in the KHL, he was K'OD big time
Lucic has had 2 nose operations from getting pummelled in fights since he's been in the NHL, I hope he isn't the standard we are trying to beat because we should aim higher.

But in the end it's always better to do both : 1- Show up and 2- Win.
Anyway. Good AHLer trade for PG. Russel was useless while Blunden might see some action this year.
I think I'm gonna go root for a team like Minnesota or Nashville.. I'm getting REALLY tired of "fans" around here who ALWAYS complain and ***** about everything. The perfect exemple is those two :
-Habs need top 6 size and grit, they sign Cole who brings both to the table, the same people who complained about size and grit now complain about the term and salary.
-Habs need bottom 6 size and grit, they trade to acquire a big and physical player. The same people who complained, now complain about how he is not a good fighter.
You guys (you know who you are, the rest I love you all! Yes homo) are freaking irritating. Yes, the players aren't perfect, but atleast they bring something the Habs need, and you still freaking ***** and moan?

Aiming high for the new generation Canadiens' fan, is to barely make the playoffs, and losing in the first round, that's now considered to be a success
I remember him from the famous "Killer B's" at the WJC. IIRC they included Blunden, Dan Bertram, Dave Bolland and Cam Barker, all of whom were drafted by the Blackhawks. Good pick up.

I guess the Habs should tank for the next 5 years so they can draft good players? A freaking loser mentality is what it is.

Complaining seems to part of that new mentality as well.

When there's a salary cap, you have to pretty frickin' stupid to have expectations of a deep playoff run year-in, year-out.
You should take a look at the Cowboys, the Jets, the Celtics before the big 3 (more like 4, but whatever), the post-lockout Knicks or hell, even the Spurs since their 07 championship.
Just because you were once a dominating presence in the sport/league doesn't mean the cap doesn't handicap you to the same level as the others. Bad management will affect us as badly as it does other franchises.
