Why does Etem need another year just curious? I don't mind if he stays one more year but I don't see why it's a must. I'd like to hear your reasoning? What does he have to improve on in WHL? He's physically ready. His skating is second to none. He played top line minutes. Improved on his point total and goal scoring. Went from a +8 last year to a +41 this year. Developed a better offensive game showing he can create for himself. His defensive game increased mightily.
^ So I don't understand why he needs at least one more year. Would it be nice? Sure... Is it necessary? Not at all!
You can pretty much say that about any A level prospect though. The Ducks don't usually rush prospects, which has worked out really well for us. If he proves himself ready in camp, sure give him a 9 game look and see how he does. But until then, gaining more experience in the WHL won't hurt. Afterall he still has none experience from the AHL. Few prospects makes the jump to the NHL right away from juniors.
Palmieri has already some NHL experience, more WHJC experience and a full season in the AHL (where he scored a bunch of goals) behind him. Yet I don't see him as ready either unless he impresses in camp. But until Etem shows otherwise in camp, I consider Palmieri being more "ready".
Ryan-Getzlaf-Perry
Blake-Koivu-Selänne (I strongly believe that he continues)
Maroon/Gordon-Bonino-McMillan
Beleskey/Gordon/JFJ-Macenauer-Parros
Replacing Bonino with some more experienced center would be better.
I'm really worried about our PK lines now that Ruutu and especially Marchant are not on the team. Koivu and McMillan are good but who else? Bonino and Macenauer? We know that Ryan and Perry can play PK but it's not ideal.
I like Perry on the PK, he showed last year that he can kill penalties and be a threat with 4 shorthanded goals. On the other hand I also don't want to see him get burned out. I would say keep him on the second PK unit.
The PK is a particularly bad problem. We already had a below average PK and now we've lost Marchant, Sutton & Lilja (the latter two may have sucked but both excelled on the PK, especially Lilja). I don't want to have to see Perry, Ryan & Visnovsky overworked because they're playing 3+ minutes a game on the PK as well as their high 5 on 5 workload.
I'd have to think Brookbank is the favorite to beat out Foster for the 6th spot purely because it gives us 4 guys to use on the PK. Unless Carlyle thinks Fowler is ready to take more defensive responsibility.
Still a lot of work to do. Am I the only one who would have rather had Goc. If Coggs gets more then 1.5, it's will look pretty bad IMO. Goc would have been at that price range and we would still have that 2nd rounder.

Goc > Cogliano especially for the role we needed filled being a third line center, good PKer, and good on the draws. Goc trumps Cogliano in all of those areas.

But maybe Goc didn't want to come to Anaheim, so it doesn't matter.
Cogliano is better than what we had, and that's all that matters.
Hello guys, I have a question. Just curious - is there any chance /or how big that chance is/ of Peter Holland centering the third line and Cogliano playing on the wing? thx
Bottom 6 is worse than last year already.awesomeee
How do you figure? McMillan will be better, Sexton will hopefully get his s*** together, Coligano seems like a big improvement over Chipchura. But I don't think Murray is done.

Not a chance. We need Holland down in Syracuse, aside from the fact that he's not likely to make it out of camp (unless he manages to win 100% of his faceoffs).

I think he might be referring to the Oilers.
Anyway, I was happy to read about the trade when I got home. You could read in a lot of comments over the last years that speed was a main concern for Murray. Not sure why Cogliano never crossed my mind as a target, but he sure makes a lot of sense for both teams. Would not have expected Cogliano to fetch a 2nd round pick, but he seemed to be worth more than a 3rd rounder as well - so a 2nd a year later is pretty reasonable, I would say.
Good to see Murray giving proof to his intentions of filling some holes, even though free agency this season made it a little tougher than we hoped. Hopefully Cogliano will be able to create a lot of positive energy out of the trade - as it should be - and gets signed to a good deal soon.
And just like that, our third line went from complete question mark to an basically two fixtures, who could be a very good fit together given their speed, in MacMillan and Cogliano. And if those two work well together, one can be a lot more optimistic about throwing a kid on their line, as well.
Here's how I see it
Ryan-Getzlaf-Perry
Blake-Koivu-Selanne (I'm confident Teemu is coming back)
Beleskey-Cogliano-McMillan/Palmieri
Sexton-Gordon/Bonino-Parros
Did you guys see that this trade was [rumored] to originally be Hemsky and Cogliano for Bobkov, Palmieri, and our 2nd? I'd have to say it seems like we'd be making out like bandits on that deal.
