The 2011-12 Shootout Lineup

Per youtube, some of these one-on-one moves from Richards are pretty awesome...

If Brad is a lock for the shootout (and I'd assume he is) ...this should soften the potential blow of losing Christensen's 50+% clip...

Lets count Richards as a lock...

As for the other two?...

Zuccarello? Wolski? Dubinsky? Anisimov? Stepan?

What would a three-man lineup look like?

Richards shot at over 40% last year, which is pretty impressive. Only 25% the year before though.... in both years he took the most shootouts of all Stars players.

Richards-Wolski-MZA/Christensen

anyone have numbers on richards?

also i hate the gabby is bad at SO's. I still want him to shoot though. no dekes or backhands just shoot until he nets a few and feels more confidence in the SO. i hated when Jagr refused to do SO's...

Rangers have 4 guys listed in the top 20 in shootouts in the NHL last year.

6. Eric Christensen scored 5 times in 8 attempts.
9. Mats Zuccarello scored 5 times in 9 attempts.
12. Brad Richards scored 5 times in 12 attempts.
19. Wojtek Wolski scored 4 times in 9 attempts.

With Henrik in net I think we'll do okay.

Hopefully, we will be a much better team and dont have to rely on the shootout like last year.
Richards, Wolski, Zuc (if he is on the team) would be the shootout lineup. If No MZA, either Step, Arty or Dubi would probably be the third choice.

Zucca
Richards
Wolski

We made playoffs because of shootouts, went 9-3 during the season with only Kings and Pens doing better. If we went 6-6 ... goodbye playoffs.

Wolski, Richards, then either Zucc (If he makes it), Thomas (If he makes it) or Anisimov.

Also if you have EC in the lineup you obviously use him as well.

The only problem with Zucc that i have is that he used the same move all season and goalies caught on. he is gonna have to pull out some new stuff if he wants to be successful at the shootout. Richards obviously goes in there and then one of the other guys we have who are pretty decent at shootouts. Hopefully Biron doesn't get hurt so he can provide some shootout coaching again like last season.

Some career stats courtesy of NHLShootouts.com :

Richards 25/59 for 42.3% for his career (not in the top ten for a overall percentage, but second in shots and fourth in number of goals)

EC is 23/43 for 53.5% for his career (9th in the league overall, including retired guys and 3rd overall for GDG -- but that's really a factor of where you shoot in the line-up and your goalie and 7th for number of goals)

Wolski is 22/50 for 44% for his career (again not in the top ten as a %, but tenth in overall goals)

All together those three average out at a 46% success rate in the SO...as a combination on one team that's pretty lethal

Zucc doesn't yet register on the site because they use a minimum of 10 shots before they include guys in the list...he'll be right up there next year...which could be lethaler

On the other hand, Gabby is 2/19 for a 10.5% success rate...which is 5th lowest in the league...which is very unlethal

Thats wrong

He scored on what, his first 4 attempts (all using the same move). Then he stopped using that move, probably to avoid goalies catching on and being a "one-trick-pony". Thats when the goalies started saving his attempts.

I dont remember all the penalties he took (i saw them all though), but i dont think a goalie has yet saved his "signature deke". At least not that i recall, but i may remember wrong

1st Erik Christensen
2nd Brad Richards
3rd Mats Zuccarello

When more shooters are needed to decide the game:

4th Wojtek Wolski
5th Brandon Dubinsky / Ryan Callahan / Artem Anisimov

Christensen is one of the first guys, if im Torts that i'm trying on the first line LW in preseason. Give Wolski a shot, too.

I doubt that we ever have our "dynamite" lineup of EC, Zucc, Wolly together except if there is an injury over the course of the season, so i'd simply say take whichever one of them isn't in the lineup and replace him with Richards.

You could also start to try to groom Anisimov in the shootout by putting him in the 1st spot with no pressure, rather than as the 4th or 5th guy with all the pressure.
