It's a 2 way contract so I doubt he was that expen$ive

I like CD but where do you play him? You shouldn't have a goalie with a slow healing shoulder injury that will force him to miss much if not all of camp backing up a 42 year old. Norfolk also has Tokarski who should have the #1 spot in Norfolk which will be great for him, Nagle was brought in to be backup in Norfolk and has a history with Norfolk HC Jon Cooper, Janus will be with the Everblades.

I firmly believe that if healthy we wouldn't have signed Garon and that CD would be are backup but it was going to be backup in the NHL or nothing.

This doesn't apply to the upcoming season, but LA's goaltending situation is one that interests me for 2012-13. I figure Roloson will be ready to retire then or at least won't be a NHL #1 at that point. I know we have Tokarski coming through the system, but one of Bernier or Quick would be a great long-term solution if we aren't 100% confident in Tokarski. Schneider is another name that pops up since Luongo will be their man for the foreseeable future.

Would the price be too high for a goalie like Bernier or Schneider, or is Tokarski more NHL ready than I assume?

Either Lundin is way worse than any of us knew or he really needs to fire his agent.

For those asking, Lundin had arbitration rights, would have won more in a hearing - didn't have that same leverage as a UFA

He is a better defenseman then any of the guys signed by Tampa to this point (with the exception of Brewer of course).

+1... This was a disaster for both sides; we needed him back and he fit in here for the most part.

The whole situation is kinda weird. I don't really think you can look at the playoffs as a good indicator of the type of Defenseman he is and can become. He improved as the playoffs went on just like some other young guys. Either Tampa really didn't want him back at all for some reason or Lundin wasn't happy here. But he at least gets to play in his home state and for a minor raise. Good luck to him.

I wonder if coming from Burnsville, MN has something to do with accepting the Wild offer.

As for Purcell, who has a July 20 arbitration hearing, Yzerman said he spoke at length Friday with agent Kent Hughes and expects them to speak again Monday.

"We'd like to get something done," Yzerman said of reaching a deal before the hearing, "but we're prepared to go through the process if we have to."
Quote:
In another matter, Yzerman said he and assistant GM Julien BriseBois debated at length about signing free agent goalie Cedrick Desjardins, but a slow-healing right shoulder injury (believed to be a torn labrum) that required surgery and that the Lightning already has five goalies under contract weighed heavily.

"We wish him very well," Yzerman said. "He played well in our organization. There was just that uncertainty on his shoulder, and Colorado stepped up and gave him a good deal. And with the goaltenders we have under contract and to pay a premium for him, it didn't fit into what we were trying to do right now."

SY on Purcell: "we exchanged #'s and positions and where the arb. decision will be" Did not sound like they were close.

My gut feeling is that its resolved through arbitration .RT @Acehawk74: Mike, how do you see the Purcell situation playing out?

SY also said that the discussions continue with SS91. Nothing really new to report there.

Clarke MacArthur: 62 points. RFA signed 2yrs/6.5M total. AAV 3.25M per year.

Sergei Kostitsyn: 50 points. RFA signed 1yr/2.5M total. AAV 2.5M per year.

Teddy Purcell: 51 points RFA

So IMO Teddy SHOULD be awarded in arbitration somewhere in the 2.5-3M per year for one or two years.

Which is about what most of us assumed I guess. I wonder what SY is coming to him with. 2M per?

I guess Yzerman is trying to sign him to a contract similar to Downie's (2 years, $1.85 million cap hit), probably a bit more (cap limit was increased etc). Yzerman might be aiming for $1.8-2.5 million, while Purcell is looking for $2.5-3.0 million.

That should be what Purcell gets, however if I were Purcell/his agent, I would put the almost ppg playoff performance into the equation as well. That's probably the discrepancy right now and SFY is looking for 2.5-3mil, while Purcell's agent is likely asking for 3-4mil.

I would sign Teddy @ 3 per for 2. We need him. Unless we go out and fill in a top 6 via trade, we're really looking thin. I haven't even begun to consider injuries. 3 million is fair IMO.

Agreed. Remember it took a while for Downie to sign that deal as well.

I would be happy with anything between 2-3mil a year for two years.

There's an upside when you play with Vinny.

Pretty wide range for point producing RFA wings signed this offseason.

Ladd tops the list at 4.4 AAV for the next 5yrs.
Stafford 4 for 4
A.Kostitsyn 3.25 for 1
Setoguchi 3 for 3
Grabner 3 for 5
Okposo 2.8 for 5
Brouwer 2.35 for 2
Voracek 2.25 for 1
MaxPac 1.65 for 2
B Pouliot 1.1 for 1
Stalberg .875 for 1
Bergfors .575 for 1

Based on all the comparables;
I could see Yzerman having solid reasons for thinking Purcell only deserves @$2M per (+or- 250k). Likewise, its not unreasonable for Purcell's camp to argue he's worth @$3M per.

I think his value is less than 2.5M, but if it goes to arbitration he'll make more than that.
