Sure, we ship out our only PWF and the guy that's supposed to replace him in the next 1-3 years for a goalie prospect and a 3rd. Wow.

I can't see Yzerman trading both Malone and his future replacement at the same time. Especially for that return. Makes no sense.

Is also strange how many people hop on the wouldn't take Bugsy or Vinny for free bandwagon, and yet they are constantly included in a never ending series of silly trade proposals and sillier rumors.

Yes this will help us to make the playoffs. Let's trade one guy who will and one guy who could be on the team this season for 2 things that won't.

I believe Yzerman will move Malone as soon as his NMC becomes a modified NTC but we would be moving him to clear money and open a spot FOR Ashton.

Sadly it isn't the worst trade proposal I've seen over the last few weeks!

At least during the season there are less bored fans wanting something for nothing.

When Yzerman first came on he made a sideways comment implying he would look to move out from under long term deals. At the time I took that to mean Mesz, Ohlund and/or Malone as it was also made clear Vinny wasn't going anywhere.

Now, he did get out from Meszaros (and Walker, yay) , but, the longer Ohlund and Malone manage to stick around the less likely I think it is they're moved out. Yes they take up a good chunk of cap space. However, both their contracts are about to hit greatly declining amounts of actual dollars paid (Malone after next season and Ohlund the season after that). Their value to us (as well as in a trade) will increase as their skillsets will be at or above what they're actually being paid.

Malone is only due 8 million over his last three years.
Ohlund is only due 6.75 over his final three years.

You couldn't find that sort of value in todays market, nevermind in the next few years. After overpaying the frontloaded years why dump the payroll friendly back end? It still being a business and all.

I'm not opposed to moving them but totally opposed to dumping them. If assets coming back don't improve the current roster there's little motivation to move them.

Ohlunds play during the regular season has declined so much that it just isn't a cost effective contract to us in those final years. Its debatable if its worth it right now, really.

Malones value per production/game is also in the red due to his extensive injury history too, but because he carries a unique stature to this team and fills a needed role that nobody else can do at this point, hes somewhat of a necessity to stay.

Make it a 2nd and it's a deal. Can't do a trade without a 2nd round pick, everyone knows that.

Yzerman and Purcell's agent, Kent Hughes, have been in discussions for the past two weeks but had not reached an agreement as of late Tuesday night.

The arbitration hearing is scheduled to take place at 9 a.m. in Toronto...
Quote:
...after both sides present their case, the arbitrator has 48 hours to render a decision on a contract, which will be for one or two years. The Lightning can request the length of the contract, and the decision will be binding.

The Lightning are a little more than $7 million under the salary cap following the five-year, $37.5 million contract signed by Steven Stamkos on Tuesday. Tampa Bay also has the right to walk away from any award if it is deemed too high, allowing Purcell to become an unrestricted free agent.

Should we be interested? I think he'd be a huge improvement over Ohlund/Bergeron/Gervais/Kubina and should be able to play in our top 4.

Im not a fan of Campoli, don't think he would be a big improvement and the money could be better spent during tradeline.

We're all done I think.

With Purcell signed and star center Steven Stamkos agreeing to a five-year, $37.5 million deal Tuesday, that likely completes the offseason moves for the Lightning. The signings bring its salary cap payroll to $59,326,083, $4,973,917 below the limit of $64.3 million.

"We've got guys that have an opportunity to make this team (in training camp); namely up front," Yzerman said.

"But is our roster set? Yes."

Plus we already have Bergeron. Could we really have both of them on our blueline? The fail is incalculable

Ya but at least Campoli has speed and has proven to play regular minutes. Bergeron sucks and he's slow, one of the worst players in the league that just can't do anything right besides his point shot on the PP.

I'll admit that when bergeron first came here he was horrible, but in the playoffs he was actually one of our better defenseman, defense included, hopefully we get that bergeron for the next two years, maybe he finally got healthy in the playoffs.

That is unfortunately true, but I'm inclined to believe that was less Bergeron stepping up and more the remainder of the d disappearing.

Still don't want Campoli though.

That is one of the worst deals I've ever seen unless we are aiming for dumping salary cap.

Bergeron was brutal in many of the games against Boston where he was given 3rd pairing ice time. He scored a timely goal against Washington in game 4 and had a big hit on Krejci that he was unjustly penalized for. Other than that he played reasonable defense in a couple other games, but he wasn't one of our "better defenseman" in the post-season; he simply played above the expectations we set forth for him. As albatross pointed out, it was more our defense disappearing than Bergeron proving his worth, as Clark, Jones and Lundin struggled mightily against Boston and Kubina was injured.

Asking him to play regular minutes is a disaster waiting to happen, as there's a reason why he had trouble in his career finding regular NHL minutes before signing with us. You also can't compare him to Bergenheim or Thompson as they provided value to our team; there's no reason to sign a PP specialist to a 2 year deal.
