Sergei Kostitsyn will avoid salary arbitration with Nashville. The two sides have closed in on a one-year, $2.5-million deal.

The $$ is nice and I like the one-year deal to keep him motivated.

Perfect, great terms, now we just have to get the big one done. Does anybody know if this will lead him to RFA or UFA when the year is up?

Great $$$$'s. I would have preferred a 2-3 year deal, as I think he's found a home here, but can't argue that this might be a guy who is better off on a one year deal.

Which S.K. will show up next season ?

The one who got 50 points and was the most productive Nash forward last seasson .... ?
OR

The one who has NO goal and only 5 assists during the playoffs' 12 games ?

If he's still RFA, I think this is a homerun deal...even if SK only duplicates his production from last year, it's good value...and gives him the motivation to improve even more.

He played very well for us last season, his teammates all love him, and the coaches were pleased with his attitude and work ethic. I think a lot of the "questions" have been answered.

The one that Habs fans won't like to see.

he was injured throughout most of the playoffs, but probably unwisely played through it.

Glad the Predators avoided disaster, but I would've liked to see him in Winnipeg.

Let's see...work ethic questions, cancer (allegedly) in the locker room, reputation as a headcase...Got his act together after a trade and became a success story.

Hopefully Filatov will be next season's Kostitsyn.

Kostitsyn on several occasions showed he could actually play in the NHL. Filatov still has a way to go.

... before last season?

Because I think before last season, Kostitsyn had proven just as little as Filatov.

Kostitsyn had 50 points in just over 100 games with the Habs in his first 2 years. Filatov on the other hand... a grand total of 13 points.

It's called UFA.

Anyway, maybe Sergei will actually show up in the 2012 playoffs -- if Nashville makes it -- and earn himself more coin like Ward did.
