Anyone think he'll change his number since he'll be a full timer now?

Brown and Clutterbuck would be a wet dream.

A line of Clutterbuck-Richards-Brown would give teams HELL.

Ok quit dreaming about Clutterbuck, not happening.

Also, I hope Martinez keeps 53, it's a cool number and the Kings are so boring with their numbers lol. I wish Richards would've taken 81

As much as i love his game I would consider moving Scuds to make room for one of our kids after this season. I am also surprised that DavisD is still a member of the org. Thought he would be dealt by now. He earned his spot but is holding up younger much more talented players from getting theirs.

Martinez did wear #53 in Manchester as well, so it is possible for him to retain that number. In college he wore #21 with the Miami of Ohio Redhawks, but that's taken by Parse. I'm used to seeing with dmen wearing low numbers, and with Harrold gone, #5 is available for his taking.

OMG... Don't tell me this??? Petey (whoa Lay...) Harold is gone!

How can our coach and GM function without the most versatile player in Kings History? Say it isn't so Ziggs! I mean Petey was a highlight reel waiting to happen!
That guy would have put on the goalie pads if the heads of Kings State would have asked it... Wellp good luck to Petey I know he will rise from the ashes to shine again in more hightlight reels at whatever level and for which ever fortunate team can bag him!

Good luck Pete Harold, and with a (Swoosh of his Zorro like Cape) He skates off into the California Sunset.... Adios Amigo!

Oh Yeah, now back to the thread topic... Glad about AM he was very very good last year most of the time I really enjoyed his high effort and energy with some skills. Nice signing and it was nice to see him rise to the top of the dee men prospects.

His best highlight of course being when Bobby Ryan spin-o-rama'd by him for a hat trick. Classic Peter Harrold!

Maybe he'll split the difference and wear #25 (see ya Penner...)

Penner might go back to 27 since Poni is gone.

Go Kings.

$737,500 per nothelen.
Another young man that is on board with the program. If he continues to improve, Martinez is going to have a very nice 8-10 year NHL career as a 4-5 defenseman and running a #2 PP unit.

Thta's a very good cap hit for two years for a kid who very well culd see top 4 minutes if we have an injury or he continues to show improvement. Heck, it's just over $200K per year above the minimum salary.

Good signing for DL, but I don't get why A Mart wouldn't have gone to arbitration asking closer to $900,000 per. Is arbitration now an "either/or" sort of thing or can the arbitrator still settle things in between the two offers if he wishes?

A Mart was more concerned with the term than he was the money. He got the two years he wanted so he gave DL the cap hit/money DL wanted.

It's a fair trade off considering he still has room to grow and earn more in the future. The favorable contract keeps him in the fold and I'm sure management expects him to be back as the 5-6 dman on the depth chart with the ability to play the point on the 2nd PP unit.

As he matures, his responsibilities will increase and he could move up the ranks on the depth chart. Unlike Harrold or Drewiske, Martinez has the skating ability and smarts to keep up with big and fast attackers.

I'd label Alec Martinez as the biggest surprise for the Kings in 2010-11, his emergence as a regular defenseman in the lineup came as a surprise to many, me included.

I'm in the same boat, in fact I'm sure if I looked back at some of my posts from this time last year I'll be able to find a few were I claim Martinez would not play a game in a Kings uniform....maybe I should start saying that about Hickey.

How does DL do it? The guy is an evil genius in getting young guys to sign good contracts.
