The Caps weren't in a bad cap spot. Once they cut down to 12 forwards by demoting King and Hendricks, that saves them $1.5M (leaving them $300k over the cap). Then, Erskine gets sent down to cut to 6 d-men (now $1.2M under the cap). And then Carlson gets sent down, which gets them more than $2M under the cap. Not quite enough to resign Alzner, but pretty damn close.
I don't think people are saying that not qualifying Stewart was a good move; I certainly don't think it was.
All people are arguing is that Fehr is a better top-6 fit than Stewart is.
I agree with this. Having Stewart on the team would have been better than not having him. But if we had kept Stewart maybe this deal isn't done, and I would rather have Fehr.
^^^ I hope that's not true at all. We're still in a bad spot at RW if so.

You're joking right? A guy that can put up 39 points has no value?

My dad played at a pro-am today which featured local celebrity, Eric Fehr (don't worry, he was only doing a putting contest, no golf swings). It was noted that the doctors are saying he won't be playing in games until November, for what it's worth.
And he got a 2+ minute standing ovation at the supper.

Basically. Those are stats that a third liner would put up. However this third liner had shown nothing at all up until this point (hell, look at his AHL stats). He rarely kills penalties, can hardly be called a grinder, and is completely inconsistent. He's essentially Pascal Dupuis, without the qualities that make Pascal Dupuis valuable.

Just making sure that you realize that Fehr's best season was 39 points, too. Even though Stewart had approx. 2.5 more minutes per game, we can't know for sure that Fehr can score that much (with the same ice-time) until he does it.
This thread has gone way off track. Its about the Fehr trade not weither Stewart should have been qualified. Besides who cares about stewart... I dont get why it is such a big deal that he was let go... He is nearly a career ahler
Get over it
HE IS GONE
Don't like giving up Paquette, who's gonna be a beast once he gets to the NHL level, but this is a much needed improvement to the top nine, and most likely, top six. Hopefully Fehr comes back from this surgery on top of his game.

Yup. Although he played 2 minutes less per game (like you said), and he scored 39 points (21 goals) in 11 less games than Stewart.

Do you have any ability to back up why you think this?
Stewart primarily benefited by playing on a line with Evander Kane and Bryan Little. His -10 +/- rating was near the worst of the forwards. Fehr broke even. If you want to compare career highs, Fehr was a 0.57 PPG in 09-10, Stewart was 0.47 last season. Not to mention Fehr was 0.24 in Goals Created to Stewart's 0.18.
Fehr is an upgrade over Anthony Stewart. I used to see Fehr 6 times a year when the Thrashers were around- he's good.
Well, we do have Vinny Saponari in the pipeline. He's from Powder Springs, Georgia.
The other one is Jan Kaminsky, a 2012 Draft Eligible forward playing for the Belleville Bulls. He's from Kennesaw. Whether we'll see more down the line... I don't know.

I think because of his junior output:
07-08: 29 goals, 13 assists, 213 PIMs
08-09: 25 goals, 25 assists, 230 PIMs
09-10: 36 goals, 29 assists, 136 PIMs
He made the jump to the ECHL and had 179 PIMs. If he does continue to develop he could be a bit like Carcillo, or even possibly Steve Downie (without being clinically insane).
you guys have been doing a nice job picking up players from teams in cap trouble. I like the guys you got from the hawks and Fehr is a really nice player who could thrive now given a chance. It will be interesting to see if you can make a playoff push this season. The SE div is prolly the toughest its ever been this season.

Carcillo and (especially) Downie have at least shown that they have the ability to chip in at the NHL level. Carcillio put up 24 points in 51 games in the AHL, and Downie was over a PPG in the AHL when he's played there. 20 points in the ECHL? I don't think he's anywhere close to Carcillo or Downie. I'd rather have Fehr than Carcillo anyway.
