Huddy Joins Jets as Assistant Coach

Title pretty much says it all....quality addition to the coaching staff in my opinion and he should be able to help lighten the load a little for Claude as he transitions from AHL to NHL...

Although I hate the Oilers, I approve this hiring as your bringing in a coach who has played on championship teams and knows how to win.

Excellent hire. Should be a tremendous teacher to the defence. His 5 Stanley Cups and 12 years experience as asst. coach in the NHL is a great asset to have moving forward here.

"The ‘now’ is very good in Chicago. The ‘now’ back in the days when they were drafting first, second and third? It wasn’t very good. But the core of fans that stuck with them, if you asked them now, I betcha they’d say it was worth it.” - Kevin Cheveldayoff

Perfect. Tom Gilbert, Laddy Smid, and Denis Grebeshkov played their best hockey and with their most confidence when Huddy was coaching them on Edmonton.

I'm sure he'll have the same effect on Bogo, Enstrom, and the rest of the D.

This is an amazing move... I am so happy right now.

So, to review:

1 week ago, HF Jets was in panic mode and True North were awful.

Add Gregoire for nothing
Add Fehr for next to nothing
Hire a defence specialist as an assistant coach

All in one week!

I bet people's opinions might be changing slightly.

Think what they might still do before the puck drops on the season?

Personally I hate the Oilers, but this is a good signing. Hopefully he can help out the defensive side.

Out of prairie charity, I hope they give the "pathetic, lethargic and incompetent" crew a bone to chew. Just for fun.

I blame sugar.

Some of us have never wavered in our belief in True North. I had known for years that the Moose were being run better than some NHL franchises in terms of player development, amenities, treatment, equipment, etc. The contract might not have been as good, but the facilities and employees were better than some in the NHL.

But when they acquired the Thrashers, and the way in which they did it, that was when they completely sold me that these guys know how to build a winning team to achieve their objectives. I may not understand every move they make (for example Anthony Stewart), but I am confident that there is a good and valid reason.

Oh I bet you're wrong... I'm a big believer, but some think they know more than the gm about putting together a team. Just wait till there's two days with little news and watch them come out of the woodwork, personally I'm amused more than anything by it.

I was however surprised to see kevino going on last night in the Fehr thread.... Time to let go of the Stewart thing.

And I do like the Huddy signing, good to see some big league experience as assistant.

One area that helps TNSE is that as management, they have very strong "people skills". This not only resonates with the employees but it resonates with the players as well. Word like that gets around and helps attract quality people.

There's a guy in Florida who would argue against that point.

Lmao you read my mind. Doing a Great Job btw and congrats.

But like Mungman says in this thread is unfortunately there are a bunch of idiots on here who need to complain that the sky is falling to fill the void in the off season or like to play armchair GM.

Like that whole Stewart crap attached to the awesome Fehr signing, like seriously people let it go. Yes unfortunate most of us would have like to see him play at least one more year after his breakout, but he's gone its done, support the team or shut up. Thats my opinion anyway.

Anyways way the majority of people on here seem to be pretty happy with what Chevy and Zinger are building here and are looking forward to the future of what we have, and whats to come.

GO JETS GO!

October 9th can come soon enough!

This is a very good addition to the coaching staff. Don't know why the Oilers ever let him go.

Maybe he learned how to coach defense so well because of all the mistakes he had to learn from..

My impression is that they're trying to build an organization on players that will want to play in Winnipeg, even if it leaves them a little short on depth now. The obvious examples being Scheifele over Couturier and letting Stewart go then acquiring Fehr, and not going after any of the overpaid free agents.

Neither Stewart/Couturier would have had problems playing in Winnipeg, I don't think..

Scheifele was drafted seventh overall because in the estimation of the Winnipeg Jets, he was the best player available. Time will tell whether or not they were right. As I understand it, Anthony Stewart was something of an odd case. Chances are that they would face the option to overpay him (thanks to arbitration) and not be able to trade him, or risk losing him on the open market. Either way, they would get no compensation.
