Dennis Persson?

Didn't see a thread on him lately. I know he is a rfa, but did we make/can we make a qualifying offer or looking to resign him. Is he in the future plans for us?

I don't think Persson is in the Sabres long term plans. Unfortunately, a wasted 1st round pick.

He was qualified. Long term plans are up in the air.

Hradek's take: The Sabres might have reached for this Swedish defender. Many scouts figured he'd be a second rounder. Still, Buffalo's scouts have had a pretty good track record in drafting defensemen. Maybe Persson will be better than we think.
Patrik Berglund was taken with the next pick.

He was qualified and he'll probably be our #8 or 9 next season, as it looks like the organization has some confidence in him.

I've read that he's starting to 'get it.' The logjam on D gets even messier...

The Sabres have a ton of prospect talent on the blue line (Schiestel, Pysyk, McNabb, Brennan, Grags)

Persson would have to light it up to pass some of these other prospects.

GM's don't always make the right pick. Crazy, I know.

Yes. He's useless. Back to Europe soon.

The Sabres must see something in him if they qualified him. Surprising considering the logjam of decent defensive prospects they have. I'm interested to see how he does in Rochester this season. Maybe he can push himself up the depth chart.

See the above.

The guy was the shuttled extra defenseman during the playoff series based on his performance and Dineen's recommendation. He's rebounded farther than just about any prospect within this organization in the last year, having gone from less than an also-ran to one of their Black Aces in the span of a season. He likely has this year to show them something more and depending on ShaMo, could be #8 (typically a 15-25 game performer in most average Sabre seasons) on their depth chart breaking camp.

His development as a player has been Novotny-like so far.

I'd be surprised if we didn't see him in Sabres uniform sometime this year due to injuries.

What's with all this hate?

He was the guy brought up from Portland to be on the taxi squad, ahead of Brennan, Schiestal, etc. He was qualified and I expect him to become an NHL defenseman in the next few years.
