Good chance Stewart is re-signed as well. Don't see Blues management giving up on him yet.

Kid could have had a huge pay day. We'll see now. Likely gets a one year deal at a few million to try and prove himself worth a big contract.

I could see him going elsewhere after that though.

Any chance the Blues would be willing to trade Tarasenko and another prospect (Rattie?) for Iginla?

IMO I would hope the Blues wouldn't make that deal. I think Iginla would be huge for this team with his experience, leadership and skill, but I just don't know how much longer he has and I dunno. Maybe if this type of deal was in a couple years ( similar to LA trading Schenn and Simmonds for Richards ) but I'd rather keep the younger players right now and see how things go once they get here and start playing.

I don't see it.

If they don't win this year, I doubt they will be panicked enough next year to make a call like that. The following year, Iggy could very well be too old to make it worth it.

I would put the chances of something like that happening at approximately zero, myself.

No chance at all. The financial aspect means that there is no way we'd even do Tarasenko for Iginla straight up.

From a team rebuilt perspective, there does come a time when you trade picks/prospects for proven talent. However, you never trade a 20 year old kid who is arguably the best player not in the NHL for a 35 year old in the offseason.

Looking for the next Iginla/Nieuwendyk trade?
I don't think the Blues consider that for a bevy of reasons

Tarasenko's team was eliminated from the KHL playoffs today.

He tied the KHL playoff record for goals (10) in only 15 playoff games, and was on the ice for all 7 of SKA's goals in the 16-7 aggregate loss to Dynamo Moscow. He was part of 6 of those goals, 3g, 3a.

I'm just relieved they didn't give him more than the paltriest of ice time because that would have interfered with the delicate chemistry in that SKA juggernaut. I mean those other guys have résumés. RÉSUMÉS, I TELLS YA.

Fair enough. That opinion may change if the Blues get bounced in the first round. But a contender's window of oppurtunity typically lasts about three or four years, which gives Iginla and the Blues several legitmate shots at the cup.

But I can understand not wanting to let go of Tarasenko.

This Blues core is very young, and if they are able to keep them all together then the window would be longer than 3-4 years. I mean Tarasenko and Schwartz are going to be expected to be 2 of main guys to put up points and they aren't even in the NHL yet. I don't even think they're in their 'window' yet, believe it or not.

The Blues are at the start of a 5-10 year window of competing for the cup assuming there's an owner who will back the team the way they should. Backes is the oldest of the true core and he's in his prime.

Lesson number one when covering the National Hockey League, take everything you read and hear out of Russia with a grain of salt.

The latest regarding Blues prospect Vladimir Tarasenko and him showing up to the World Championships a little beefy.

Sources close to Tarasenko tell me he might be out of shape but certainly not to bulk up for the NHL. There’s a reason why he’s nicknamed the “tank” and it isn’t because he’s slim by nature. We’ve seen this drill out of Russia before, can’t control the player so why not ostracize him.

Tarasenko has a bigger build similar to Anton Volchenkov or Roman Polak and if he goes about his training the right way he could be a monster. If the Blues are successful in signing him they’re likely to get him on their strength program immediately.

I’m told Tarasenko was expected to meet with his representatives on Wednesday to discuss all of his options. Sources say as of Tuesday nothing is imminent.

Well, not yet. Due to the collective bargaining agreement, he can't sign the contract until July 1. But he has agreed to it in principle.

Tarasenko scored 3 goals in 2 games for SKA so far. 2 goals so far in the 2nd game. First was a beauty.

And keep in mind he played only three minutes the first game since he had just joined the team. Looking good.

Kid's going to be a star in the NHL. I see him coming over to the NHL for 2013-2014 and being a consistent 30 goal-65 point guy.

He's already signed and coming over as soon as the lockout ends. He was in St. Louis last month.

I guess his return COULD be in 2013-14, but I sure hope not!
