Agree with what atl thrasher 344 said. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an expert on Thorburn or anything. I'm just taking what I saw from the games that I did see, plus what I have gathered from the Atlanta fans. I have been reading the Thrasher boards for a few years, and almost always read the game day threads.

From what I can gather, he is very highly regarded by most Thrasher fans. From the sounds of it, he will most likely be well liked by Winnipegers as well due to his work ethic and blue collar play.

Liked this guy as a junior; lost track of him in the A though. Obviously Chevy/Zinger were watching closely. I believe he also played on our WJC team once. Probably destined for the A but will compete for a spot in camp. Good player.

Thorburn/McArdle-Slater-Rypien
Glass

Enstrom-Byfuglien
Hainsey-Bogosian

Mason

Dont sell Chris Thorburn short.....tremendous heart and willing to do the dirty work

Bright side is now we only have one Stuart/Stewart on the team....that will lessen confusion!

Interesting. 20th overall pick in '05 for 20th overall in '07, both have been disappointments to date (Esposito moreso than McArdle). I like this trade, if only because I really like McArdle and his character, whereas Esposito has always struck me as a bit of a headcase.

Oh...and next person who says Anthony Stewart gets pistol-whipped!

Your gonna like McArdle if he gets a shot. Will fight (but has gotten injured in couple fights badly with Panthers last couple seasons) Trade was made because he'd have to go thrue waivers to be sent down.

Seems that McArdle is a restricted free agent. I wonder how much Chevy will end up signing him for.

I'm happy to trade Espo, as those knee injuries were making the Hossa situation look worse and worse.

If McArdle is going to be a scrapper, though, I hope he works on his balance. Tough to find a fight video where he doesnt fall in the first few seconds.

A good call up guy from the minors when a regular goes down with an injury. Something I don't think we could have counted on Esposito to do.

This is a great depth move. Before the Jets returned I was following the Panthers, I liked McArdle!

Neither of them will ever be the player they were projected to be when they were drafted.

The difference is McArdle has the attitude and attributes to be an effective bottom 6 player. Esposito, not so much.

This was my first thought as well .

It also begs the question of why they didn't just keep Stewart.

Not sure I like the trade. Both players are 1st round busts, but Esposito was younger and put up better numbers in the A.

Why would anyone say Anthony Stewart?

This isn't a bad deal really...Worst case scenario, it's a wash on both sides. Esposito wasn't moving up anytime soon.....If ever...

I think McArdle fits the mould of what this org. wants in a player way more.

I see this team as being fiercely competitive, lots of heart, hustle and physicality. If we can mix in some skill, that to me is a recipe for success.

I'm thinking:

Ladd-Little-Wheeler
Kane-Burmistrov-Fehr
Machacek-Maxwell-Antropov
McArdle-Slater-Thorburn
(Glass, Holzapfel, Rypien)

Cormier, Clingberg and Aliu all need a full season in the AHL and Petersson could benefit from a second season (if he doesn't go back to Europe).

Glad to see you back, haven't seen you in a while.

Sadly, I think that's likely, that it turns out to be a wash for both sides.

I'm hoping Fehr can play on the second line. But for now, I say play him on the third.

I think the one thing we can all agree on is that there will be a lot of competition for the third and fourth line, and even some for the third defence pairing.

Was on tour all of last week.

I may not agree with letting FCS walk and bringing in Fehr, but this isn't a bad move really. It could very well be one of those "Change of scenery" type moves. In all honesty, I don't think Esposito has anything left in the tank, and getting whatever you can for him makes sense. He was the last piece of the Hossa deal hanging with the organization, but I've never been one to hang onto players for reasons like that.

It's really an AHL depth kinda move, but teams have to make those too.

McArdle could easily beat Thorburn out of a roster spot if he finally shows why he was a first round pick.

Wasn't McArdle a first rounder?

Yes, 20th overall in 2005.

Are you sure? I thought he was the first player ever drafted at eight years of age.

Somebody summed it up best in the TSN comments to the trade article.

"13 pts AHL and your game is offence usually means start a 2nd career or Europe.."

By the sounds of it, it would take a damn near miracle for Angelo to resurrect his once promising future in the NHL.
