My view on it. Pretty damn close.
Overrating rookies on your original list, RNH may be great in 2 years, but right now is Statsny and not even close.

I disagree with the ones in bold.
RNH has some amazing upside, but its hard to say they're comparable at the moment.
I think the Avs D prospects have the edge.
mueller has too many injury concerns to take over gagner.
And lastly, no way varlamov and dubnyk are equal...should just be varlamov>dubnyk.

Considering you left off some key pieces to the "core" of these teams, I think the question is flawed.

And come on guys, Eric Johnson is not as good as Ryan Whitney is. He might get there someday, but he hasn't been yet.

It was pretty close, only a couple of changes.

I prefer teams with high end talent down the middle. Center, defense and goaltending are what it is all about. Right now Colorado has that. Edmonton has some crazy forward talent though. It is just that wingers don't impact the game nearly as much as the other positions.
The nice thing about this is that no side can play the injury card. Both teams had a crazy amount of injuries to key players last season. Both teams need to hope that those key players recover from said injuries.

How is a first overall RNH not as good as Stastny but Landeskog is better than Paajarvi who just had a solid rookie season? If you can suggest that Landeskog is better than Paajarvi because of potential then surely you can admit that RNH is likely to be better than Stastny.
And you have to be on something if you think Johnson is better than Whitney. Whitney was having a Norris calibre season when he got injured. At the time he got hurt he was top 10 among d in points, ice time, and +/- on the worst team in the league.
The only ones you gave to Edmonton were Eberle over Hishon and Smid over Quincey. It just shows how very little you know about the guys like Lander, Petry and Hartikanen coming up through the system.

Ryan O'Reilly gets no love around here. Just watch, in a year or two when he's a 60 point scorer our core will be remarkably strong.

I would take Colorado's core at this point.If Edmonton gets Nail Yakupov or Ryan Murray I then would take Edmonton's core.

My take, based on potential.
Forwards:
Duchene = Hall
Stastny = RNH
Landeskog = Paajarvi
Hishon < Eberle
Peter Mueller = Gagner
ROR > Lander
Galiardi = Hartikainen
Defense:
Erik Johnson > Whitney
Siemens > Teubert
Elliott = Petry
Barrie = Klefbom
Quincey < Smid
Goaltending:
Varlamov > Dubnyk
Pickard = Roy/Bunz
Edge Colorado.

Why is Marincin being ignored? According to hockey's future he was our top prospect before the draft.

Not just ignored but underrated. That's life though when you're a Slovak 6' 6'' point per game defencemen in your rookie season in the WHL I suppose.

I think this is actually pretty close. Stastny and Duchesne are more proven at this point but in another two years the Oilers two first overall picks could change everything. The one area that I like the Avs better on is their defense.

Exactly. Why not ignore Elliot too at least?
Marincin: 46th overall in 2010
Post Draft Season: 56 points in 67 games(0.84)
Elliott: 49th overall in 2009
Post Draft Season: 65 points in 72 games(0.90)
I'm not saying they're interchangeable but my point is that Marincin shouldn't be left out of the conversation.

it easier to take the Avs because their core is slightly old and, ergo, more proven. We don't know how good RNH will be. But Edmonton has the best player of both teams, in Hall and if he clicks with RNH, look out. Stanely will be residing in E-town sooner than Denver.

I beg to differ. Also just because Hall and RNH might click together doesn't mean the get a cup faster, the avs have the more balanced core.

The Oilers won't win a cup until the defence issues are fixed.
