It's about POTENTIAL, are people really this dense?
First i see all the Colorado AINEC nonsense and then i see Varlamov >>> Dubnyk and the Colorado defense >>>> Oilers defense. Seriously, people?
This is about future POTENTIAL, not about today and today only.
Anybody who thinks that it's not even close either way is either a flaming homer or just plain delusional.
What?
The title of the thread is Core vs Core, not Core vs Core in a couple of years.
Predicting anything for this season is gonna be hard enough as it is, let alone years after. Give it a rest.
Defense:
Erik Johnson > Whitney
Siemens > Teubert
Elliott = Petry
Barrie = Klefbom
Quincey < Smid
Goaltending:
Varlamov > Dubnyk
Pickard = Roy/Bunz
Edge Colorado.
The Oilers also have Gilbert, Hemsky (If we're including veterans like Whitney and Quincey), Omark, Pitlick, Hamilton, and Marincin amongst others.
I think that some people forget how deep the Oilers system really is.

WTF are you talking about? Most of the cores of both teams are relatively unproven so it's about potential. The thread isn't about who is a better team today.
Pretty sure this discussion won't be settled for at least a couple seasons until we see the extent players such as Hall, Duchene, Johnson and Eberle hit. Not even to mention recent draftees and youngsters in the system.
I'd say so, yes. I'd also say it's safe to say Edmonton will be inspiring fear in opposing goaltenders for years to come. Eberle, in particular, is going to be something special.
I took Colorado, but I feel I'll be choosing Edmonton after the next draft.
despite who we take in the draft, i think it will be interesting to revisit this thread a year from now. i think the progress that the oilers "core" could make in the next year could be more than the avs core.
also i think over the course of the season, some players such as petry have surprised us in regards to their development. lets see how they are a year from now.
The Avs added two top 6 wingers this season (in Downie and McGinn), Varlamov showed gobs of potential, and O'Reilly/Landy showed they will be forces. We need to develop our dmen now, EJ is our only quality player right now.
If were going 3 player core its Edmonton though, Eberle is the real deal

Goes the same way with Colorado.
If Duchene, Barrie, Elliot, Gaunce, Hishon etc.. take control of their chances next year then Colorado's core looks very impressive.
I think it's safe to say that both fanbases want to dethrone the Canucks right now and leave Calgary and Minnesota in the dust!

agreed. thats why i think a year from now it will be interesting to see how things change. maybe colorado will be still ahead of edm, maybe edmontons core will be on par or better. either way, will be exciting to see both of these young teams have some success soon.
