Watching the highlights they showed a couple big saves he made, but he let in some soft ones from in close too.

Wow...Halak's stats are horrible. I hadn't been really following him since i tend to stay away from the "Players we shouldn't have traded" discussions, but I was really surprised to see him lose his "#1" spot to Elliott...

Halak fans tried their hardest to get me to hate him but I never could. Sad to see him struggling like this, always had nice things to say about Price and the organization.

It's amazing how many of the former Habs I hate now thanks to posters not shutting up about them, but I'll always have a soft spot for Halak.

He's coming back from an injury. Brian Elliott is a 1/2 decent goalie, who is playing at a higher level than I have ever seen him play before.
Furthermore Halak is coming back form a relatively serious injury. He hasnt been sharp since.

He's got the ability to get white hot. I would not count out Halak yet. He'll take the job off of Elliott at some point throughout the year. If anything, it's a good thing Elliott's around to cover for Halak while he recovers.

There is and was no eye injury. He just isn't playing well.

D'Agostini continues to play a very solid game for the Blues.

He broke his catching hand last February, and missed 11 games.
He hasn't had the same catching hand since... He's having problems with rebound control from the hand.
He'll get it back IMO...

Who had an eye injury?
D'agostini had the time to adjust in St. Louis. Good for him, but really, we have to be looking forward on this one...

Furthermore, D'agostini like it or lump it, has been suitably replaced. No great loss there. Good NHL'ers are prone to come, just as they go (hopefully at least).

We have Gionta, Kostitsyn and Cole. I still would not take any of them off this team in replacement for D'agostini. And forget about White's role on the fourth. IMO he's awesome, and will be an elite 4th liner soon IMO.

Problem is, most of the goals scored against him are top corner, blocker side.

Well, when one hole opens up... So do a bunch of others.

Halak has always been beatable up high... I think it's just more apparent.

One thing about Higgins, when this guy is confident.. he's a damn machine.
when he's not.. he's a damn mess.

But good to see him scoring.

That's what I was thinking, this guy was the dump in the trade and now has found his scoring touch again

How long did we say Gomez had gone without a goal? Like 70 games or something? And Higgins and McDonagh have 9 so far this year...

Let's be honest here, Higgins was done in Montréal, he had problems finding back his game in NY, in Calgary and in Florida. He was brought in Vancouver to improve the fourth line.

Though, I'm glad he found his game back.

fair enough... but Gomez was also "done" in NY, brought here to improve our 1st line, and whereas Higgins has exceeded expectations in VCR, Gomez has fallen woefully short.

A team doesn't give a guy a 7.4M$ contract, and then unload him after 2-years, unless he's "done". We gambled on him returning to at least decent form, and we lost... big time.

Come on now.. He is not that bad. 70 games that's almost a whole season!

From the gomez thread:

I wanted Higgins to comeback to Montreal when he was struggling a bit in Florida but then he picked it up. He would make a very good 3rd liner.

I can't be upset about us letting him go though. Like the poster above said, he was done here and continued to struggle for about 2 more years.

It's just laughable that we had to give up what we did for Gomez.

Usually, its one step back, 2 step forwards. The Gomez trade is one tiny step forward, 4 steps back.

no. i'd argue the opposite - albeit 2 steps instead of 4 . yes he sucks. yes we gave away McDo. higgins sucked while he was here and not many people were sad he left so lets not rewrite history here.

but gomez's tenure allowed us time and space to groom who will hopefully be plek's replacement, eller, and gomez's replacement, desharnais.

either way, gomez's time is coming to an end
