Its really sad to see so many people that have left for supposedly greener pastures. I know first hand that isn't the case anymore. How many plan on moving back and supporting your city?
It's a real shame. The city (and the province in general) has gone through a solid economic boom over the last decade or so and I don't think most people in Canada even realize that. Unemployment rate is really low compared to the national average (just a hair over 5% last time I checked). The cost of living is low. It should be an attractive destination for folks who are having trouble finding jobs esp in the maritimes and parts of Ontario and who are not comfortable with the high cost of living in Alberta. Yet the population growth is pretty much stalled, it's a huge mystery to me
It hasn't stalled. In actuality, its at record growth levels right now, and that Winnipeg is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada at the moment.

Born and raised in Winnipeg (minus a few years as a kid). After high school I realized having no education or skills in a terrible economy doesn't get you very far. Joined the military, posted to Edmonton. And well I'm rooted now so there is no going back to Winnipeg. Besides, Winnipeg isn't the same city it used to be. It's a modern city with big box stores and metrosexual clubs.
I've been a supporter of the idea of an NHL team returning for 6 years before it finally happened. Looking forward to going to Calgary on the 9th to see them live.
I have a sister who's now some kind of bigshot at a finance firm in Toronto. She went to the first Leafs-Jets game there in her company's suite / schmooze box.
She'd been to Leafs games before but this time, she sat right in the front row watching. She cried when the Jets came out on the ice. And when her boss came over to start talking about the company golf tournament or whatever she shushed him and said "Excuse me, I'm watching the Jets right now."
Apparently he was pretty shocked, LOL, but just goes to show that no time or distance or corporate culture can come between a Jets fan and their team.
Born and raised Winnipegger who currently going to school in OTTAWA, will be moving back soon enough though of course I'm the biggest homer I know haha.....anyways hopefully some other capital city jet fans show themselves, i have a couple friends from back home here and we watch games together at various bars on bank st or elgin st
Just wanted to give a shout out to the squadron!! I always have to pinch myself when I hear our home crowd but it pales in comparison to the pride I feel when I see the Squadron invade other rinks......Buffalo and Tampa Bay games both come to mind as incredible game day atmosphere and support!!
I think our game in Minneapolis St. Paul might have been the most insane but that was allot of Pegger's driving down.......too me it's like the Packers or Steelers in the NFL or dare I say the Riders in the CFL
Thanks for making my day every time I watch a roadie and see our traveling band of fanatics!!
wooooo born and raised in Winnipeg. Living in Calgary now... never once did I cheer for the flames! Anyway, excited to see the Jets here at the saddledome on the 9th! eeek Who from calgary is going to see them in town? Theres going to be a big chunk of the dome full of jets gear!
The simple fact that I actually kind of half-assed cheered for the Coilers at one point now makes me want to throw myself off of a mountain peak. I can't believe I was such a traitor prior to this year. I feel so dirty............................

Don't feel bad.
After 1996 nobody, and I mean nobody, thought the NHL would ever be back. Lots of us moved on to other teams. I moved on to the Flames.
Now I started to believe somewhere around 06-07, and pretty much gave up on the Flames at that point and started to describe myself as a "Jets fan" if asked about hockey. But I don't begrudge anyone who cheered for any other team right up to May 31, 2011.
JETSyyc - I'll be driving down from Edmonton for that one. I'm pretty sure the Jets will be well represented.

I'll be there!!! Been anticipating that day since the schedule was first released, I predict there will be a huge amount of Winnipeg Fans that night!

I hope nobody minds me bumping this thread but while I was keyword searching HFBoards on Facebook. I was wondering if anybody that uses Facebook would be interested in joining/forming a HFBoards Winnipeg Jets Fan group (There are HFBoards groups for the Bruins, Ducks, and Sabres fyi) or not. With it, we could possibily make it so fellow Jets fans living outside Manitoba can meet and mingle and most of all, meet up/gather/cheer on the Jets from sports bars in whatever city (like Edmonton for instance) they're living in.
I hope the admins/mods don't mind. It's just an idea I came up with and it's just so fellow Jets fans living outside of Winnipeg can meet each other since we're spread out even in the cities we're stuck living in like me.
And we currently have four members including me (I hope nobody minds me having a non-English name but I go by Jason since that's my English name.) If you have Facebook or don't use Facebook but need a reason to make an account, please do us a favour by joining the FB group. Anyone who's a Jets fan is welcome no matter where you live even if it's in our hometown of Winnipeg where we were born or just raised at.
Born and raised in Winnipeg and moved to California in 2001. Followed the ROTJ from the beginning and never lost hope. Looking forward to watching the boys live next season, either back in the Peg or when they make their trip through Anaheim and LA. Get a ton of compliments and positive comments when I wear my Jets swag, especially last month when I went to Disneyland for the first time. Here's me sharing some Jet pride with another transplanted Pegger on my first morning at Disney...
ive never been to winnipeg but for whatever reason ive always been a jets fan. they left when i was five-ish and ive avidly folloowed them to get back. watch all the games on hockeystreams (gamecenter next year for sure though) but in guelph there arent too many fans. made it to 3 jets games this year in detroit toronto and buffalo (though they got creamed besided the ot win in buffalo)
London, Ontario here too. I live right next to the JLC downtown but still haven't been to a game there. Came out here for Grad school a few years ago and MA turned into PhD. But I have Centre Ice and everything stops for Jets games. Just got a fancy new 46 inch HD. I wear my new Jets hoody and wrap myself in my old school Jets blanky. I wore it to the first game against the Habs (it was chilly out) and got lots of honks walking back and forth to the pub. A cabbie in front thought I might be trying to rob the place.
