2015-16 = 647,222k cap hit

If we buyout Olesz in summer of 2012 his buyout cap hits

12-13 = 500k cap hit
13-14 = 250k cap hit
14-15 = 1.375M cap hit
15-16 = 1.375M cap hit

Buying him out at 1/3 > 2/3

It is a ? but the Hawks at least have to have our team doc look him over + independent doc and see if he can be cleared in August (He is supposed to be ready by camp so it isn't impossible he is cleared in early August for light skating , etc which would = Cleared)

Or we approach Olesz and try to convince him to allow us to buy him out. Unlikely given his agent and money owed to him but if he is convinced he is not gonna get to play on Hawks he may waive and allow to be bought out (Netting him $3,883,333 + UFA status)
If CHI can't buy him out this year, he's got just as much of a chance to prove himself once he's medically cleared, since he'd get a chance at the roster at some point anyway. No?

OMG!

Everybody is still judging Rusty, and some of you havenīt seen him play!!! Of course, points are important but you canīt say he is a bad player just because he hasnīt 70 pts! Now, he will start totally new "hockey life". Blackhawks are different level! Rusty deserves a chance!

Give him a chance! And after 40 games we can meet here again, and we can start to judge him!

Good luck, Rusty!!!

this board will most likely give him 3 games, not 40 haha, just a heads up.

First - I'd love nothing more than see Olesz break out. And it's funny you mention 70 points to make the "haters" seem insane - but we're talking about a guy who has made it to 30 points exactly once in his career.

However - we're talking about a guy who hasn't had it click in SIX years at the NHL level. Add in a really bad contract, and his fragility, and I think it's pretty obvious why intellegent Hawks fans are praying for a miracle buy out option.

Nope, all it takes is one bad preseason game that 1 person actually saw.

This question could be asked of:

Nylander, Huet, Redden, Gomez, etc.

Sometimes bad players get bad contracts from bad GMs judging them by their best seasons/potential.

Olesz plays solid defensively and fit Martin's system well

Martin expected his offensive game to develop over time when he signed him

Then Martin was fired and Olesz has had zero development of his offensive game and several injuries

My opinion is: Give him a chance! Rusty's problem in Panthers was coach. I heard your Blackhawks coach is great, so give Rusty a chance!
I'm Rusty's fan and I'm sure he will become a good player in Chicago! Rusty is such a great guy and thanks to his new teammates he will be a good player!
