Nice job, Tigers, that was a good series. It's always sweet to beat the Yankees, the perennial underachievers, given their payroll. They should fire Girardi. I mean, if you can't win with a $700 billion payroll, something's wrong
Congrats on beating the Yankees. Must be nice to have a solid baseball club to be a fan of. I haven't had the same luxury much in my lifetime.
I'm not a Yankee hater like many but I like the Tigers' club. Think that series with Texas will be a really good one. Cool to see a couple different teams matching up.
With that said, with hockey season upon us now that is where my congratulations and well wishes end. I will extend no such pleasantries towards your hockey club. I wish good health, though, and may the best team win. Enjoy the rest of the baseball playoffs, ladies and gents.
Off topic, but Philadelphia is definelty the anti-Detroit -- the Eagles, with all their expectations, are collapsing already, and the Phillies, with that world class pitching staff of theirs, cant beat the lowly Cardinals out AT HOME in game 5 of their series. Hilarious!
How do you break your ankle and not know how it happened??
No corner outfielders with Young, Maggs, and Boesch all on the shelf. Verlander loses game 1 and is only starting one more. Avila can't hit a beach ball right now. VMart is cold. Peralta is cold. Jackson is cold. Cabrera is making contact but he's not driving the ball. Betemit is an embarrassment. They may end up replacing Maggs with Clete.
I'm guessing Magglio's ankle has been hurting him all season and he just learned to play through it. Remember earlier in the year where he wasn't putting weight on it when he swung and everyone talked of him "not trusting" it? I wonder if this hasn't been a problem all season and he finally did enough damage to it to get it re-checked.
Also, Avila's problem might also be health. He may not be even close to 100%.
Valverde might have won them a game or two later in the series by nailing Cruz. This game was over anyway, so if he broke his wrist or something, that might actually have been somewhat productive...the Tigers won't be so lucky, I'm sure he'll be just fine.
