The Phillies and Red Sox are among the most aggressive suitors for Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran — if not the most aggressive, according to major-league sources.

interesting, what's it take to get him, from a division rival?
Ugh... I really don't want Beltran. But our offense looks so horrific sometimes, that I might be happy with anyone we get.

Getting Beltran on the Phillies would be like if the Flyers got Jagr.

Ryan Howard is absolutely awful. I hate him with a passion. And his contract starts next year...

Well I'm glad I decided see HP today. I timed it perfectly as I missed the first 7 innings of woeful offense and arrived for the 8th and 9th.

Carlos Beltran would be sweet on this team right now at the right price. He's a talented ******* in a contract year. What more could you want?

I agree, Dom Brown's youth and inexperience is not helping the world series cause right now. Thats not me saying he needs to be traded or I'm running him out of town. I would just rather have a more experienced player right now instead of Brown's tentativeness and inexperience.

I would rather replace Ibanez, then play a combo of the young guys at the other spot. I have a deep hate for Ibanez

Apparently there's a rumor the Mets' asking price is Brown, Worley + a 3rd prospect. That's a bit much, but apparently they're asking for less from someone say the Pirates.

Do you blame the Mets for asking for that from a division rival, when they're willing to pay the whole salary of Beltran's remaining year?

He'll only be owed $6m by July 31. That's not worth Brown, Worley and another kid. No thank you Mutts.

If they were smart, they take the best deal from anyone. Its not like they are competing this year anyways. It would be different if it was a 26 year old stud OF.....but its not.

We wouldn't give up Brown for Halladay. Doubt we do it for him.

Firstly, that's a ****-ton of money for August onward. Secondly, I guess you missed the part where they're looking to eat salary if it means getting a better return?

Howard should be sat down. He looks completely lost out there, especially against lefties.

I completely blame Manual and Thompson/Gross for Howard's regression. All Howard wants to do is pull the ball, teams just dare him to hit the ball to left field and he cannot do it.

If the likes of Prince Fielder, Albert Pujols and David Ortiz can hit the ball to left field, there is absolutely no excuse for Howard not being able to.

Howard has always shared a similar thorn in my side that I had with Carter, (not to derail a Phillies thread), just feel that they are both immensely talented but have dubious holes in their games that leave you scratching your head. The simple fact that a soon to be $25 million dollar bat essentially, is little to no threat to hit the ball to an entire half of the field is laughable....

and as I write this he hits a RBI single between 3rd base and 2nd...

Does anyone else think the Stutes is becoming a stud? He was brilliant last night and I think he paired with Bastardo are just lights out. Also I would love for the Phils to go out and get Beltran. I feel that he could really add to the offense and is more than reliable replacement for Ibanez when he's gone or when he's going through one of his slumps.

Was just letting the OP know that it wasn't a full seasons salary left to pay. Not sure why you made your second point to me, but even if they eat the rest of his contract he's still not worth Brown, Worley and another kid.

I don't blame the Mets for asking so much for him. From the Phillies, at least.

120+ degrees on the field today at Wrigley, and the Phils bats are as hot. 5-0 in the second...
