1 way or 2 way, I don't think it matters so much with the Habs. They can afford to send a player on a 1 way deal to the AHL if he's not performing.

I'm thinking another 2 additions, with Eller starting the season injured. Maybe Blunden and Trotter can compete (although they are different player types) for the 14F spot, to start the season with the big team. If the Habs don't like Drury or Madden, there might be some more centers available after arbitration, or during or after training camp.

I'm fine with that.

For sure the delay was that they were holding up for a one-way deal.

I could see PG offering 2-way 1M / 100K or something like that and they negotiated down for the 1-way deal.

The good news is that we're sure to see a lot of him this season and he'll work his ass off to prove he deserved the one-way deal and he will deserve another one after the season's over.

I also think he could potentially be the 4th line center, but some have suggested due to his skating, he wouldn't be a good fit there, especially for JM.

But White's worked on his skating big time since being drafted and I don't think he's much worse than Halpern was last year.

Perfect. Time to give him the confidence he deserves with a one-way deal.

I'd like to see the Habs perhaps sign a guy like Ryan Johnson to compete for the 4th line center along with White and/or Engqvist.

Johnson's got alot of experience, is great on faceoffs and would be very cheap.

I think his skating is adequate. To me his skating is deceiving because he has an awkward stride but I find he gets where he needs to get without speed hindering him.

Plus, centers are pretty always moving on the ice, as opposed to wingers who are more often stopped. This makes White's first few steps less of an issue.

You gonna have Trotter or Engvist between Moen and White.

the best bottom 6 in a very long time.

We are stilling missing a right handed centre who is good at face-offs, White was at like 40% on face-offs last year so he isn't an option. A lot of people mentioned Engqvist, I know he is good enough defensively for the NHL but how is he on faceoffs?

Not that White doesn't have potential as an NHL player, but Pyatt had done FAR more to deserve his one-way contract last year. He played 12-14 minutes a game against lots of good scorers and was worth his weight in gold during the 2010 playoffs.

But we would lose White on waivers anyway, so no harm in giving him the one-way I guess.

Nice! Like the one-way, was hoping to see him stay with the team all year long. I think he could develop into a nice 3rd center in the NHL. Guy hit, play a in-your-face type of game, not afraid to drop gloves and he have interesting hands. Sure his stats aren't exceptionnal right now but he had limited ice time last season and was more in a defensive role. Also win a lot of battle for the puck in corner.

I still think we are going to add 1 more experienced forward.

Would he go on waivers? If that's the case I agree, White would get snatched because a lot of teams are interested in this kind of player that can skate, hit and fight for 4th-line duty.

I'm very happy with the deal personally, pretty much exactly what I hoped for.

I don't believe that we will see Engvist as our 4th line center personally. I see him called up for injuries, but they'll go for a vet. They still have the money for it. They might leave some room under the cap for trades and signings along the way, but not 6-7M.

Just need a center that's very good on face-offs (DD actually is, but I don't want to see him on 4th line duty).

You could argue that Pyatt did more to deserve his one-way, but not FAR more.

White's job of having to step up and defend teammates, on a team where very few guys are willing to do so, is incredibly difficult and at times downright scary. White stepping up and defending Subban vs Boston is arguably a greater accomplishment in itself than anything Pyatt has ever done for the Habs, mainly due to its impact on team unity.

I know he had a high percentage against men in the Swedish Elite League (around like 56%) a couple of years ago. He had a 36% percentage on faceoffs this year in his 3 game stint so nothing too shabby for now...
