Marty St. Louis is a great hockey player in his own right, but Stamkos scored 50 goals as a 19/20 year old. Honestly, it's amazing (collusion?) that another Eastern team hasn't put out the OS. Maybe one has and he hasn't signed yet, but the damage it could do to the Tampa salary structure with the horribleness of the Vinny contract already on the books? It's like the Hjalmarsson contract last summer, only moreso if he signs on and it gets matched.

I would absolutely, no questions asked, trade Vanek and Myers for Stamkos.

I'd add any 2 prospects not playing in Buffalo to the deal as well.... and if Yzerman said, "Give me Adam and Kassian, and your 1st rounder.... and you have a deal"....
I'd say.... "Hell yes!!! Done Deal"

Myers MIGHT become a franchise defensemen...
Stamkos IS a 22 year old franchise 50 goal, 90 point center

Ennis-Stamkos-Stafford
Leino-Roy-Pominville
Hecht-Goose-Boyes
Kaleta-McCormick-Gerbe

Regehr-Erhoff
Sekera-Weber
Leopold-Grags
Morrisonn

Just read through the thread... gotta say I'm surprised how many folks wouldn't pull the trigger on that. Myers straight up for Stamkos strikes me as thievery.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who gets this.

Yes, he won the Calder. So did Andrew Raycroft, Steve Mason and Barret Jackman.

At the height of his possible value, I can't see Myers being worth what Stamkos currently is.

It IS thievery. It's not even in the ball park in terms of fair value.

There are not many players that would ever really be available that I would trade Myers for. I also believe in his potential... but it's still potential.

Stamkos is a 22 year old player that you could legitimately argue is the most valuable player in the entire NHL (age + proven ability + ceiling)

Stamkos of course. But that is fantasy land. There are many other things I would want in fantasy land over Stamkos....

To sign him would gut this team in order to be able to afford it and I have a hard time imagining how we could swing it. But a team with Stamkos does not need Myers to be a winner.

In a world without a salary cap yes I would do this instantly. If it means completely gutting the team and losing Vanek++ too then I would be more hesitant. But straight up Myers for Stamkos there is no way you can turn that down.

What if it was basically replacing Vanek with Stamkos? Does that make it more palatable? What if they dealt Vanek for assets that they add to a deal with Tampa to make it happen? Going from 35-40 goals and 70 points up to 45-50 goals and 90+ points? Sure.

You would have to include Vanek to create cap space

It depends, TBH. If we get Stammer with a LT extension, absolutely. if we get him and end up losing him to another team really soon, then ughh. I need to be a risk taker and go for it now, lol. Good thing I'm not GM. I guess I'd rather have a lifetime of Myers 9if he signed an Ehrhoff length deal) than a Stamkos who's trying to get to UFA (a la JayBou) and leave.

And yes, I know I'm looking at things in the wrong way so please cut me some slack.

The TH forwards are more skilled as a group. I don't think Stamkos is a 50g player in Ruff's system and these players currently on the roster(minus the traded players to get him here).
Black and white, sure. But its never that.

I keep Myers. I'm interested to see how his Stamkos thing plays out. A HUGE reason for his emergence was his chemistry with St.Louis. having a mentor that's also a supertar and linemate has done wonders for him. If he left it would be fun to watch how he adapts.

This is true I suppose, I just don't like the idea of losing Myers+Vanek+prospects is what I really meant. If we're tossing Vanek+Myers for Stamkos I still do it. Toss in some of our better prospects and I might have a hard time saying yes. Mind you I would still probably do it, hard to say no to setting yourself up perfectly at #1 center for the next 10+ years.

Vanek + Myers LOL NO. Stamkos is 50 goal scorer with one of the best passers(St. Louis), give van that kind of playmaker and see what happens. Van had 43 goals the only season he had good forwards and the sky is the limit for myers.

It is foolish to assume that a former 50 goal center would just be able to come here and put up those numbers instantly in Buffalo. This guy has had St. Louis on his wing and has had pressure taken off of him due to Lecavalier being there. I would love to see Stamkos here BUT BUT Myers may end up bein the cheaper of the two (which is important)

Did you not read the next sentence? You know the one where I said I would still do it? I was just saying that losing Myers, Vanek, and two players that may be future stars in the NHL would be harder to do than just Myers and Vanek. I assumed that would be obvious, keeping two prospects is better than losing them.

Vanek had 43 goals the same year Jason Blake had 40 and Chris Drury had 37...

just sayin... times have changed.

At 27 years old... Vanek is a 30 goal scorer/ 70 pt player in today's NHL, and at his age, it's fair to say "he is what he is".

At 21 years old... Stamkos is a 50 goal scorer/90-100+ pt player... and only getting better
