Even if Lindstrom and Olver are AHL bound, they still need to cut down at least one another player to get to 23 - could be Cumiskey or a Yip/Porter type of forward. Do the Avs want to risk putting this type of player on waivers? I doubt it. Hence, my presumption a trade is coming.

False, shows up late to practice, parties way too much, fought teammates, calls out coach, etc. Not a good locker room guy around young kids.

Lol we went from a defense filled with smooth skating midgets to a giant defense of players who can't skate.

Quincey and EJ can skate.

O'B1 and O'B2 cannot, neither can Hejda.

So I'm thinking Elliot or Hunwick will get a starting spot so we can have at least one skater on each pairing.

He is good as a role player as long as he doesn't sneak into your top 4.

The Avs really do have a massive defense. They're relying heavily on EJ and Quincey to be effective puck movers.

Thats a lot of parking cones in that defense.

Ehhh....obviously a canuck fan.

He and SK did well in Nashville given all the HFB garbage said about them. Interesting.

Pretty much. A PMD was a need, not SoB.

Rather have O'Brien in the lineup than Hunwick or a 10-11 Cumiskey.

They should be able to keep our goalies protected and at least cut down on shots on net.

We have plenty of PMDs in the system anyways.

Another Preds fan wishing SOB would have resigned. Oh well, the Avs should like him better than the Nucks.

I sooooooo confused. I thought this was a signing of Ryan O'Byrne which was weird because he'd been signed already. Just realized it's Shane O'Brien...that explains all the booze jokes on pg 1.

We have a ridiculous amount of dman liabilities on our blue line...Hunwick, Cumiskey, O'Brien (not always), and possibly the rookies.

Hopefully Landeskog takes less than $3.5 M like usual which brings us to the cap floor anyways, and we're Don Cherry's favourite new team.

McNabb: "O'Brayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyynnn passes it to O'Byrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrne"...I can imagine it right now

O'Brien is a pretty good defenseman. Great bottom-pairing guy and he can jump up if needed and not have too much a problem. He's overly ripped on around here by Canucks fans. The guy had a solid year in Nashville.

That's a fine price for him. Someone's gotta be getting shipped out of Colorado now. I'd say it could be a defenseman but the Avalanche has an abundance of forwards as well. My gut says Cumiskey, Quincey, and/or Yip are being shopped.

The canucks seemed to like him alright when he was dressing for them. I thought he was a good character guy--i just found him to be a pretty stupid hockey player as far as his decision making goes. Didn't notice it as much with the Preds but with the Ducks and Canucks for sure. Lightning i didn't have a lot of opportunity to watch first hand, but from the stats it looked like more of the same.
Oh well...if nothing else he can chase Clutterbuck and Powe around and maybe get a little payback every now and then between penalties.

I actually really like the signing for the Avs. I have always liked O'Brien and I ithnk he is a good fit for the Avs. Provides vet leadership and some toughness to protect all the young guys.

Good 3rd pairing guy to have around...

SOB was a good bottom pairing dman for the Canucks. Took a lot of penalties his 1st year here but toned it down after. Played particularly well on a pairing with Ehrhoff. Stepped it up in the playoffs. Does get involved and defend his teammates (we could have used more of that against the Bruins).

Unfortunately wore out his welcome here with the brass (Gillis called SOB the smartest played he'd ever met ) otherwise he was better than Rome, Albert and probably even Ballard on the bottom pairing.

Definitely not a top 4 though, tends to attract penalties when defending better players in his own zone (though he always claims to be innocent with the refs )

At $1.1M, definitely good value for the AVs.

SOB was a model citizen in Nashville. Teammates loved him, trots liked him. His penalties werent too bad, even. He'll drive you crazy when he tries to be Bobby Orr and stickhandle the puck up ice, but on most nights, he was a solid, steady number six d-man. I wouldn't have minded having him back, but there are a couple of guys ready to step in. I wouldn't worry what some of the VAN fans are saying-- our experience was more recent and nothing like theirs.

I'd rather sign Hunwick to a 10 year contract.
