I agree - he seems like a solid PKer who will be a nice veteran addition to our 4th line, but why the 2-way contract then? o.o

The injuries and the chance that the Sharks have guys that can outperform him. Ferriero, McCarthy, and Mashinter are all examples of guys who can win a spot if things go right for them.

He'll make Mitchell look like Mitchell has soft hands. Definitely a defense first, last and always player.

I am fairly sure he is excempt from re-entry waivers so that might be one reason he got a 2 way contract.

Ah...I see. Seems like a solid addition, and I'm assuming he's not too expensive.

The other Demers (I assume you mean Julian) was never signed by the Sharks when his draft rights expired.

Does this mean Douglas Murray is going to have to change his jersey to "D. Murray"?

Doubt it.

The Sharks didn't do it for the Thornton's.

Sharks didn't add initials when the Sharks acquired Scott's cousin.

Guessing not.

He already weighed in. He is a Sharks fan who lives right by the Arena in Columbus. Right Spin?

I'm sure it's for near league minimum. Still wondering what the hell we are going to do with all that cap space

Hows his skating?

How good is he defensively?

It adds more experience for the forth line, so it's good.

While I agree this looks like a solid 4th line signing, I'm a little baffled by the veteran talk. Sure he's older, but he only has 40 more nhl games played than Mcginn and 20 fewer than Mitchell. Not exactly what I picture when someone says veteran...

Murray was an unreal scorer in junior and was a top line offensive player in college. He doesn't have stone hands, he's just always had a defensive role in pro hockey because he does that better than most.

He can score when he gets his chances, but he's always on the defensive side of the puck by assignment, so chances are few.

He's a really, really smart player who doesn't take dumb penalties and works his arse off every shift. Tough not to like him.

I watched a lot of Jackets and saw him play. I didn't see any hands in a fair number of games (~25) and I did see chances. I did a double check of his numbers just in case I missed something; his numbers in CHA, AHL and NHL do nothing to dispel the comment. Check shot percentages as well as totals. The numbers you cite are not outstanding, at best only good in his final year of college. Mitchell had better numbers. I like him as a player but he is being added to a stockpile of similar players that the Sharks have. He does bring experience. For others, he is physical without being stupid. Lack of PIMS doesn't mean "not physical".

My overall take on his signing is that it is a "battle it out in camp" signing. Losers go to Woostah. I don't think Woostah fans will be happy with the oversupply of this type. They would like one or two skilled vets. Neither Guite nor Murray qualify for that status. They do qualify as good defensively so that if the Sharks want to add an offensive specialist for the third line, they can. Use Guite, Murray or whoever to plug in when protecting a lead.

Yeah I don't like the look of that on the jersey's either but oh well, still not a bad signing though, its actually a fairly good signing.

When you're 30 and have played either in the A or the big league for six years, you're a veteran. Even when you're out for a good chunk of that time, you still work with the team extensively.

Since I think the sharks may actually go with a 23 man roster this year I think this signing is to give us a 13 forward with some experience that we can put in some nights for Mashinter when we don't really need an enforcer..
