Not bad, although it's a big contract for a player who has had one good year in the NHL. The pressure is on Boyle and he will have to prove he can play at the level he did last year with less ice time this coming season. It would be a plus if he could improve his face-off abilities. I don't expect another 20 goal season though.

Good deal for both parties. More of a risk for Boyle, if he has another year like last year he could get more on the open market. Shows he wants to be here. He is a real good forechecker and a great PK'er, even if he scores at half the rate as last year he is an important piece. I like the deal.

He worked hard got a ton better and had an ok year. This is a fair deal for all concerned I don't see this as being egregious. Don't think anyone's panties should be wadding over this deal............... next.

Good deal...I'd be really surprised if he wasn't our 2nd or 3rd line LW next season with that kind of commitment to him.

Boyle had to have a good season as did Fedotenko, and Christensen a year earlier... I think that was his career season... slight overpayment for a guy who'll be a 20-pt. 4th line C. As for Christensen and Fedotenko, the former will be as usual while the latter seems to have carved out a niche for himself

Left to play bball before I saw the cap hit. 1.7 isnt bad, we can work with that.

Wow, Rangers taking a gamble here. Guess they think last season's Boyle is the one we're gonna be getting for the foreseeable future.

1.7M per is a bit steep, but if he can keep up his play from this past season or improve on it, it'll be a steal.

Let's hope for our sake, he can repeat last year if not improve on it.

I wondered at times last year if he isn't deserving of an A. Clearly he is well liked and respected in the locker room

I was expecting 1.5 over 3 years. I agree with the poster earlier saying that a 750k overpayment is a big deal. However, this is a 200k overpayment, which isn't a big deal at all. I'm fine with this.

Also, he should be a 12-17 goal guy. 25-30 pts. Perfect for a 4th liner on a very good team

1.7 per is alright. Hopefully he'll continue to improve though, and not go back to the "pre-10/11 Boyle".

I'm excited to see Boyle mature into one of the top 4th line centers in the league over the next three years. He may not be an untouchable part of the core, but he signifies what the NYR are about similar to Cally and Dubi. He just doesn't have the same hockey IQ and skill as a top 6 forward IMO.. but he is still great addition to any team, and people forget that he is still pretty young. First round draft pick, and we know it takes bigger guys longer to develop. We know he is willing to put in the extra work, and combine that with Torts philosophy of never taking a shift off, and i think he will continue developing nicely.
Every summer, i have no clue how i survive these three months. Its excruciating just watching replays on NHL network, yet we're all still reading HF every day for one line twitters of information and the smallest deals LoL

If the Boyle we got last year is the one we're going to be getting for the foreseeable future, this is a bargain. The deal is fair, IMO. If Boyle were an UFA 7/1, what do you think he would have gotten?

EDIT: I realize you say something similar, but while also saying the deal is "a bit steep" and "Wow, Rangers taking a gamble here".

Your all crazy this is great...

At worst he is our 3rd or 4th line center who isnt scoring but plays good defense and as some size..

At best we have a 20+ goal scorer for Dirt Cheap.

Lets not overreact every time sather signs someone, players want to get paid.

I'm ok with this deal. Sure you take a risk in that he might regress but his work ethic (again, based only on last season) leads to no indication of that. And worse case scenario, that number makes him moveable if need be, unlike some 6M dollar defensemen in the AHL who shall remain nameless....

I'm satisfied, but like everyone else here I will be very content once the remaining two are locked up....

It is a gamble, sure, but I think they played it safe. Would you rather sign him for under 1.5 for 1 year and then have him put up another 20 G two way season. Now you have to match or better offers in the open market which would be closer to 2 or 2.5.

Sather played it safe if you ask me.....

^^^^^^^^^^^^I cant believe I just typed that.

Anyone come across any quotes or comments from Boyle following his re-signing?

The announcement was late in the day during the summer - I'm sure we'll see 'em tomorrow.

Why are so many people upset that its 1.7 not 1.5?

Really think that 200k a year is somehow going to prevent the rangers from re/signing someone? Really?

I dont understand the problem.

Boyle's fall off last year may also have something to do with the fact that he did play a ton of minutes compared to anything he had before at a higher level and against better players being a shutdown and PK guy. It may not be outside the realm of possibility to see him put up another 15 to 20 goals with his body more accustomed to the increased workload.

And that's where he should stay.....give or take a few mins here and there on the 2nd pp unit....tee hee...

Good deal. Boyle had zero leverage (neither does Dubinsky) because he was right back to his old self at the end of the season.

If he can be very physical, and good teammate and penalty killer, all while potting like 15 goals and 10 assists, this is a fantastic signing.

slightly more than i was thinking but not enough to complain...now we have to wait with our fingers crossed to find out if last year was a fluke or his breakout year.

if last year was legit, then this is a great deal and he'll be a steal...if it was a fluke than not so much
