As a BU alumnus, I've asked myself the same question many times.

Oh please, the comments on that board were pretty tame and they have just as much right to voice support for Kreider to stay as people here have the right to want him to leave.

Yup and they bring up some good points too.

"Kreider staying because of a girl". That's as embarrassing as it gets.

My point remains. They are a bunch of prep school, rich **********. Granted, I don't think my point could even be argued.

whatever it is, I'm glad we Drafted JT, who seems like a man of action, as opposed to a boy looking to get a business degree instead of play professional hockey for the New York Rangers in the greatest city in the world. I hope JT absolutely kills it this year.

And why can't Kreider do both? He's not the missing piece to winning a Stanley Cup--at least not next season.

Can't he do it in the summer like Stepan and McDonaugh? you see, when you sign a pro contract, you can't play NCAA anymore, but that doesn't stop you from going to school. ever.
It's all about priorities.
JTs are to get to the NHL ASAP.
Chris' seem to be play college hockey at BC and then see what happens.
Whether or not he's a piece to a Stanley Cup, when he does get here, will he have the drive to make it? Will he have the confidence and courage and determination? Does he even care that much? Does he even WANT to be a Ranger?
Right now it seems like he's more worried about his school work and the Bruins' cup victory.

I gotta be honest with you, if the Rangers play well enough this season, and it comes to the deadline, I can see him being moved for a piece to put us over the top. And I'm 100% fine with that. He is a great talent, a fantastic prospect. But, does he even care enough to put it all together? I have my doubts

Nothing wrong with a kid getting a degree. Ryan McDonagh stayed at Wisconsin for his junior season and he is turning out OK.

Of course theres nothing wrong with that. I have 2. I love school.

I also lack the god given talent to play hockey at the professional level.

McD was going into his Junior year as we acquired him. If he was Rangers' property from draft day, I guarentee they would have attempted to get him out after 2 years at least. They did with Stepan.

Playing Pro hockey doesn't stop you from getting a degree.

According to that BC forum it does.

This thread is clownish. Any other updates from General Hospital?

Best part is it is supposed to be about JT Miller.

Hahaha:

God forbid anyone dream of playing college hockey.

Nothing wrong with that, but the end game should be playing in the NHL.
That doesn't seem to be his priority.
When I went to college, my priority was to study so that I could get a job.
He's had the equivalent of 2 job offers already.

Then we have another prospect who has said nothing except how bad he wants to play in the NHL, and is following his team's advice on the quickest possible route to get there.

Sorry that it's an opinion you don't agree with. No need for corny jokes though. You're better than that.

My curiosity about what exactly transpires when Chris Kreider turns pro increases.

It's two individuals and by definition that means two different paths, but the contrast between Miller and Kreider is interesting to me.

That's great that you had your priorities set in stone. Believe it or not, some kids (mostly outside of the tri-state area) dream about playing NCAA hockey. It is as important to them as lacing them up in the pros.

Speculating that Kreider is staying at BC only to appease a girl is absolutely baseless speculation, and frankly makes the ridiculous comments on the BC board justified.

I didn't make that speculation at all. In fact I don't believe that.

But if playing NCAA hockey is more important to him than playing pro hockey, then I'm sorry but those aren't the priorities I want out of our #1 prospect.
I want him to have the priorities JT has.

Whole lot of speculation in here. A lot of people speculated that McDonagh didn't want to sign with us, and how did that work out? People reading far too deeply into the situation. He's a guy enjoying his time in college, wanting to earn his degree. End of story.

All I'm saying is that you have two different prospects. One, has only expressed his desire to play in the NHL, and when the Rangers suggested the OHL, he followed their advice.

The other has never once expressed any desire publicly to play in the NHL or for the Rangers or anything really past B.C., spurned the Rangers request to play in the Q, has had to have been talked to by the Organization for his tweets about the Bruins, and seems to lack a good amount of confidence, as the organization has told him he is ready for the pros for the last 2 seasons.

I don't think it's "end of story" at all really. I'm just logically connecting the dots with the evidence we have. That's a call for concern for me. Maybe it's confounded. But the McDonagh situation is pretty much apples and oranges here. Chris has been our property from day 1. Ryan wasn't. JT and Chris could be apples and oranges as well, but they are both american born prospects who have been involved with the NCAA. One is taking the Rangers advice.

You can believe what you want and "connect the dots" as you see fit. I'm just not seeing the cause for concern.
