This not working well with children tag is really unfair to Hitch. Jeff Carter and Mike Richards began their careers (successfully) while Hitch was the coach of the Flyers. Rick Nash went from defense being an afterthought until Hitch rolled into town. Modano matured under his guidance. Good hire for St. Louis in a tough division. Pietrangelo is a good player and it's time Berglund takes the next step or doesn't. Steen is old enough and established enough to not fall under the "young player" heading. Isn't Tarasenko supposed to have a well-rounded game as well?

I know Hitchcock is a hard ass but I've never understood the bad rap that guy gets. All he has done anywhere he's coached is make good players better and win more than the previous coach. I imagine Detroit and Chicago are aware that their Blues matchups just got tougher.

I hate cbj so much.
This post made me LOL. I totally agree.

I guess I've just never been a fan of Hitch or his system. Maybe he's exactly what the Blues need though and they'll flourish. Maybe not. We'll see.

I definitely AM more nervous playing them than I was before though now. I'm pretty sure we won't be running 4-0 on them again this year with Hitch there.

I'm not trying to beat you into submission, I'm just curious. Why don't you like him or his system?

He's stubborn as a mule, comes off like a ******, and his teams are extremely predictable. He's never seemed like he's able to adapt and runs the same system he did in 2000, when the game's not the same as it was back then.

He's obviously intelligent and a good coach, just not for me. I prefer the new brand of coaches that understand team psychology a bit more, are players coaches, and know the right time when to be a hardass and when not to. Guys like Boucher, Bysalma, and what I believe Gulutzan will be. These guys know that motivation isn't just about being a hardass.

Then again I'm a Psych major and guys like Keanne and Hitchcock goes against everything the field's taught me, so that may be why.

Fair enough. I don't really put Hitchcock and Keenan in the same category though. Hell, I don't think anyone deserves to be in a category with that ******.

I agree with what you're saying to an extent about understanding the dynamic of your team at a deeper level. I wouldn't so much call those guys you mentioned as specifically psychology-oriented as I would call them the intellectual's NHL coach. There is definitely a shift in the coaching ranks to thinkers with a plan of action, or at least that's how it seems from the outside looking in.

As far as Hitch goes I've never had a problem with him and I think he'll be a good fit in St. Louis. Do I think he's the guy to take them to the promised land, no. I think his days of being a coach on a Cup contending team are done. However, his hardline disciplined approach to coaching has its place and teams that need more structure and accountability are ripe for his style IMO. I have to say though, I'm not sure how or why you think he's a ******. The player he was most famous for having run-ins with here in Dallas, Brett Hull, is a well known doucher. I don't fault somebody for having issues with an *******, I fault the ******* for being that way.

Haha good point. And upon further review it seems like St Louis has lockeroom issues of the players not taking their roles on the team seriously enough. Maybe Hitch will be the right fit there.

Didn't he have a couple screaming fights with Morrow as well? I seem to remember Morrow, once he was named captain a couple years ago, going on the Ticket and spilling all this information about his junior years up to the years he joined the Stars.

Don't think I would be happy if I were a Blues fan. As UP said, his system is stuck in the pre-lockout era...and it clearly hasn't worked so far in the post lockout.

Not sure. Again, I didn't say the "only player" I said the most notable situation.

Yet it helped turn Rick Nash into a competent two-way player and took Columbus on its only trip to the playoffs. It's really not all that different from Tippett's system and he's being given a deeper roster than what Tip has in Phoenix.

Did people know that the Devils picked a local Dallas (Plano) kid with the Langenbrunner pick last year? Blake Coleman is his name and he plays Reilly Smith in Miami.

Brown takes a huge dive and the Kings score immediately on the ensuing PP.

In my mind, alot of it has to do with the big eastern market bias that's in the hockey media. Free agents or trades to/from the big eastern markets are quite overvalued.

Carter & Wiz were top end players in Philly and Mtl/NYI, therefore they will be earth shattering successes and completely transform a helpless little nothing franchise in Columbus.

It's similar to how the predictions about the Stars were hilariously obsessed with the loss of Richards. In order to play up how great Richards would be in NY, they exaggerated his importance to the Stars, put forward the notion that they had no other good players, that Richards was entirely responsible for their success, and that the Stars would be terrible this year.

Anyone watching the Tampa/Philly game?

Already twice, the ref has blown the whistle because Philadelphia was just standing there with the puck and no Tampa Bay player was forechecking. Don't get why they're playing it dead, is it not the same as standing behind the net?

Flyers are in the wrong there. The point of the game is to score a goal. They have possession, it's their responsibility to attack. They were being given a free exit out of their zone. Are you telling me they don't think they could get to the red line? I also agree with the refs blowing the play down and punishing them with a defensive zone draw.

In a scoreless game I agree. Would have been funny in a 1-0 Philly lead situation. Dunno if TB would trap that hard if they were down though.

Yeah, the score changes everything. In that case they're free to waste as much time as they can get away with.

Bruins absolutely drilling the Oilers in the first 10 minutes.

Boston up 2-0. Could be more.

So much for that. 2-2. 2 goals in 27 seconds to tie it.

Jackets reportedly made a trade tonight, and Ryan Johansen was a healthy scratch against the Hawks.

It can't be....it just can't!

Cancel that, just Kris Russell.

Jackets might be stocking up on Russians as they look forward to Yakupov.

Apparently the Jackets aren't done.

Tyutin may be on the move tonight as well.

Woulda been nice if Toronto held onto that lead to not give them a point, same with MTL. Oh well better than nothing.

I would say Columbus should clean house and fire both the GM and the coach but the idiots who hired them in the first place are still running the show. I feel bad for Jackets fans but my god, they really are in the same category as the Florida Panthers in terms of organizational success and understanding of the way things are done. I hope they don't get Yakupov because I would hate to see that kid's bright future wasted by going to such a **** franchise.
