Basically a lesser version of Campoli who you could argue is better defensively than Campoli, but it's pretty close. Lepisto is a good puck mover and will take it coast to coast but does get in trouble being too aggresive like Campoli did at times. I think he fits the style of this team well, but I don't understand why we're further downgrading our D unless a significant trade is coming up that sheds more light into what the plan is. It would have to be for a high quality No. 2 C, No. 3/4 D or a young No. 3 C. Obviously they'll have to move Campoli and we don't need prospects or picks so we'll see.

Lepisto is Campoli without the slight edge to his game. Has a better point shot.

Looks like Bowman wants the boys to know there will be lots of competition for camp which is good, they'll try harder and put more of an effort because there is someone who could easily take their spot.

Do we know the number on Lepisto yet? Are we sure he's not going to be the 7th defenseman and O'Donnel is at 6?

Thrilled with this signing. Would be surprised if Frolik doesn't pot twenty next season.

Campoli seems to always give up an oddman rush as a result of a bad pinch or turnover. He is just OK defensively and that is a stretch. His hockey IQ isn't the greatest but yes he is a good skater who can move the puck a little bit.

I don't see why people think he is so great.

I think people rate him so high because he looked really good with us compared to the Sens/Isles. I don't recall him getting burnt on TOs as often as I thought he would, and a big part of that is that he is such a good skater. The same thing will happen with Lepisto. Campoli isn't going to make or break the team, but trading in better players for slightly worse ones and cap space does not make the team better. Unless there is a bigger move coming up and knowing Stan, I'm sure there is.

ESPNChiHawks Jesse Rogers
1) yes, I think too high for frolik but maybe he threatened Europe and Stan can't let that happen after just trading for him. 1.7 was right

What is he smoking? Did he really think Frolik was going to go for anything under $2M? I'm sorry, but I don't think a $2.3M cap hit for a 3 year deal is overpayment at all. I think that's a GREAT price for a young talented player like him. Jesse Rogers always seems to take information, and come to really bad conclusions with it.

Yes, you are correct. This 3 year deal increases Frolik's value around the league. It would be very hard for him to bomb to the point where it's a bad deal. Getting the 3rd year at this cap hit makes it a hometown discount. I'm not sure how anyone could dispute that because on one year deals or in arbitration, Frolik would at the very least make the same amount over the next 3 years and would probably get a million or so more. If he breaks out, you have a steal of a contract.

Rogers sucks. Seemingly nice guy but just shows how little true expertise with regard to hockey analysis there is in this town outside of the Blackhawks broadcasts. He gets good information but his knowledge and analysis leave a lot to be desired.

he's still a guy to follow - but his opinion makes no sense sometime

he likes only the guys he can have a relationship with Versteeg, Madden, Niemi, etc

Sassone is ok but he's way late on any info

I would rather have Frolik than Brouwer or Kopecky. Brouwer is worth 2.3 Kopecky is getting crazy cash at 3.1 but probably worth 2.3....Out of those 3 guys Frolik is the best buy for the dollar. Money well spent.

Frolik progression in terms of what he is worth. 2.3 this yr 2.5 next yr 3.0 the following... So 3years at 2.3 was a very good deal for the Hawks.

He got 7 million for 3 years but is worth probably 8 million for 3 years Blackhawks get a slight bargain price.

That's a hell of a deal for three years. Bowman is a boss.

I think it is a very good deal. Will be a steal for years 2 and 3. Frolik is going to be an awesome player for the Hawks.

Not to mention Frolik will still be an RFA when deal is done.

He's a 22 year old 20/40 guy that put up those numbers with a crappy team. As he enters the prime of his career playing with better players, there's no reason to think he won't become a 50 point scorer every season.

If he doesn't pan out for some reason after a season or two, it still wouldn't be hard to move him for only $2.3M. Olesz is a bit of an overpayment that is harder to get teams to take, but we won't have that problem with Frolik as it stands now. Solid signing.
