Jacques Martin speaks...

In resume, he says that:

- He thinks his team could be better with the youngsters who should improve like Subban, Weber, Eller, Desharnais and Pacioretty. He's expecting more from those players.
- Noted that we also added White, Emelin and Diaz.
- Tough to lose Hamrlik but the presence of Markov and Gorges makes up for it.
- Hopes that the signing of Budaj will means less games for Price...(For whoever disputed my point last month about the Habs wanting to give less game to Carey....)
- About Cole...loves the little bit of toughness he brings, like MaxPac, loves the fact that he drives the net, finishes his checks and is able to play with great players.

Thanks for posting this. Seems par for the course from him. Interesting that he mentioned Diaz. I'm curious to see how that plays out.

Thanks for the summary. I think Budaj working with Pierre Groulx will make him a surprise this year. 20 Games is not out of the question for him.

Ya, didn't expect him to mention Diaz. This must mean the organization has him high up in their minds.

I think the organization is deliberately keeping this low-key, but I'm pretty sure they have high expectations for Diaz...

My bet was that he added Diaz just because.....we added him. Look at the roster, appreciate that Diaz said that he was really open to play with the Dogs, and you understand that Diaz is going there at the start of the year. He becomes surely the first callup so even as a first callup, he's a key player, he represents good depth. Which is amongst everything, the reason he named Diaz. At least, that's what I think.

Yes, they'd much rather politically save face than win games.

Send a message via MSN to Rise from the Ashes
Clear indication that they believe he is almost or is NHL ready.

This cannot be understated considering that the Avalanche did not even have a full-time goalie coach.

This is the highlight for me. YES!! Rest up our champ so the gas tank isn't leaking everywhere by the time we gear up for the post-season.

You don't win games in July....Summer talk is a whole lot about politics. Everybody believes they are cup pretenders. Mentioning him now doesn't mean putting him in the top 4 at the start of the season....

I may be way off but wasn't Jeff Hackett the goalie coach there?

There's one thing I love about JM: whenever he speaks about his players or even players from other teams, he knows exactly what they bring to the ice. He seems to study this game a lot compared to what we used to hear Carbo.

wow I'm speechless , I never thought Martin could come up with that kind of provocative statements. What's impressive is the fact he truly revealed a little part of his deep thoughts about the team and players , and it's refreshing to see things from the eyes of a professionnal coach , how he can see things we clearly don't.

no

Price has hit his ceiling and won't improve anymore?

I can't remember the journalist who said that JM "low-key" attitude is mostly something for the camera, as the guy is still a bit uncomfortable with the media. But meet him one-on-one and he's supposedly a huge hockey nerd, a super wonk who can talk about details of the game for hours and hours at the time.

Expecting an improvement on a world class goaltending performance is asking for a bit much, no?

well I'm a Habs fan, I expect more than "a bit much"

Carey Price didn't play up to par in the playoffs, hence JM claiming that he hopes that Peter ****ing Budaj can play 20 games.

Price hasn't reached his peak yet was my point, I think he can improve massively.

Price outplayed the Conn Smythe winner when they went head-to-head and had the second best save percentage of playoff starters behind said Conn Smythe winner (who also won a Vezina this year) with an elite .934 SVP and 2.11 GAA, not to mention a perfect 1.000 against power play shots.

What in the holy name of Patrick Roy were you expecting from him? To score the overtime winner as well?

ok Jaques, I hope this means you will put them in positions to succeed, give them ice time/opportunity to earn more and not continue to hold them to higher standards than the veterans on the team...
