About a 99.999% chance of something you don't want to give up. Neither team will want to subtract from the roster without a return to make their own roster better.

These two teams are not good partners on the major player scale. Minor pieces/futures maybe.

Pieces the Canucks wouldn't be willing to give up. That simple.

Semin is quite possibly the most missunderstood player in the league. Guy is an elite player and no one seems to know it

If he was Canadian he'd get the appropriate amount of praise on this forum.

There is no cap problems with the caps. Tom Poti hasn't made improvements in 6months, his career is more then likely done.

If you want Semin, an Elite #2C, or a solid #1 center must be coming back.
If you want Green, a top end PMD must be coming back.

I'd love to acquire either at any price not involving a core member of Vancouver.

Green would be amazing on our PP, an actual RH dman who's mobile enough while having a deadly shot.
Even acquiring Semin would be an interesting piece for Kesler's wing. Kesler is so good at doing the dirty work already, and Semin is just deadly with open space.
Hell, I'd even give Green the Dustin Byfuglien try on the wing for the PP.
I'd love to acquire either Kesler or Edler at any price without involving a core member of Washington.

Honestly, the only trade the caps would consider with Vancouver would centre around Kesler, unless it's a minor one.

Why do people think Washington would move Green/Semin for lesser pieces?

The team is trying to win now, and trading a #1 defenseman/1st line winger doesn't help them do so, despite the perception of these two players by non-Cap fans.

The only way either of these players gets traded, is if:

For Semin: a legitimately high-end top-6 centerman is coming back.

For Green: I don't see a scenario where the Capitals trade Green, unless they're getting a clear upgrade on the backend; and there aren't many players that are an upgrade from Green in this league.

I think he's a world class scorer but a little weak in his own end(what sniper isn't?).

Semin isn't a bad player in his own end.

Semin isn't someone I would accuse of only playing when he wants to. He always plays and tries, the thing is he just doesn't always make smart choices, he is prone to brainfarts.
