Fess up: who did you really think would win the cup?

Few of us predicted Tampa (although Tampa was clearly a deserving champ).

So, who did you really pick and what assumptions did you make that turned out to be wrong?

For the third year in a row, my pre-season pick was Ottawa. I though Bonk, Phillips, and Lalime would all take the next step (and, of course, Bonk and Lalime both when in the opposite direction). And, I thought Varada and Fisher were going to provide them with the plumbers they seemed to desperately need.

Colorado at the start because of Forsberg but once he was injured i knew it wasnt going to happen.

PS: that'S who i THOUGHT would win not WANTED, of course i wanted Maple Leafs to win.

Before the season started my family all put in $10 and picked a team to win the cup. I picked the flyers, my dad picked New jersey, my mom picked the Canucks, and my sister picked Ottawa.

None of us were right but at least my team made it the furthest, so I won anyways.

I'm pretty sure I predicted an Av's/Devils final. Can't recall who I thought would win, but the Flames were my team most likely to pull a Ducks run.

After the Av's got Kariya and Selanne, i thought they would be unbeatable.

The past two seasons I thought it would be Ottawa. I figured someone other than Alfredsson would kick it up to the next level. I was mistaken.

I predicted Ottawa to win the Cup.

... and I was wrong.

But hey... at least I won the playoff hockey pool I was in, $400 win sure was nice.

Hard to bet against those guys. I thought they'd both return to form in Av-land.

I predicted an Ottawa/Colorado cup final, with Colorado winning. This would have been a great final, especially with the forwards these two teams had. The final was great anyway, but just saying. I was wrong....again.

Pre-season I picked Colorado. At the beginning of the playoffs I picked the Leafs.

I did pick Tampa to go to the Conference finals though.

I didn't think so at all they lacked depth at every position, they had lots of skill and a couple of good defenseman and that's about it. By the way I think Rob Blake is way overrated

I thought Detroit over Philadelphia

Tampa...

Well, as a Tampa fan, that is. In reality, I picked something ridiculous like Nashville vs. Ottawa. Ottawa was the only team that most Tampa fans were afraid of.

I honestly don't remember, but I'm pretty sure it was Toronto or Philly.

they almost had more franchise players on one team then you could count on your hand. they were pretty damn set and ready for that cup. even now i still don't really understand how kariya and selanne sucked so much.

so u already konw my answer, i thought the avs were goign to dominate like the wings did in the years before.

The avs were pretty damn good on paper

kariya
selanne
sakic
forsberg
hejduk
tanguay
morris
foote
blake

aebsicher was a bit of a question mark, but with that offense, no one thought it would matter.

Ottawa or Colorado as most others thought. I never thought about Tbay because they are too young and hadn't been through the wars yet. Usually a team needs to get close and fail before they understand what it takes to win.

Colorado. But also the Canucks, not just because I'm biased as hell but I though they would have really improved from the previous season. Well, I was right about the improving.

I picked Detroit after the acquisition of Hatcher. Turns out they didn't need him in the regular season and they needed a lot more than him in the playoffs.

I believe you mean someone other than Hossa and Chara. The rest of the team, more or less, disappeared.

I picked the Sens vs. Avs in the finals.

I was actually picking a Vancouver/Ottawa final, something that was incredibly close to happening last year.

Toronto.

Other than Toronto? Pre-season it was Ottawa and Vancouver. I was telling people Tampa would be a real contender but I never pegged them to even make conference. Oh well.

Although come first game second round I was sure it was Calgary, and not Toronto. Just didn't want to say it out loud.
