I picked Detroit. I thought that they'd be a shoe-in after locking up Hatcher and getting back Hasek.

Nobody at the start of the season.

Picked Boston at the beginning of the playoffs.

Picked (and bet) Tampa at the beginning of the final four.

Sens, and I'll keep picking them. I have to be correct eventually, right?

That's kind of how I was too. I didn't see one clear contender above the rest.

I looked at Colorados awesome fire power but then wondered could Abeisher replace Roy?
I looked at Detroit and I saw an ageing power house.
I looked at Phily and thought this might be their year but wondered whether their goaltending would hold up.
NJ were contenders until Stevens was done, and even then back to back is tough.
I never believed the Sens would do it...

I NEVER conisedered TB, EVER, or even Calgary.

I guess the team I was leaning towards the most was Phily but I wasn't really sold on anyone. I didn't look at one team and think "this is the team to beat"

That kind of thinking hasn't helped me much, as far as the SENS are concerned. I thought they'd have it three times by now.

Depends when you count it. At the beginning of the playoffs, I picked a Detroit / Tampa final, with San Jose and Toronto the other members of the final 4.

But before the season, yeah, no way I'd have guessed Tampa.

Had the Devils going all the way again at the start of the year.

Going into the post season I thought Detroit would end up taking it, oops.

Beginning of last season: Ottawa

Beginning of April: Toronto

After the first several playoff games: TB.
They had the look of a team clicking on all cylinders and they were getting better with each game. Watch enough playoffs seasons and you can sometimes sense it.

(Only changed my mind three times. )

Pre-season: Tampa(figured a miracle run) vs Dallas with the Stars winning (Turco was the main reason).

Beginning of 2004: Ottawa(Thought Lalime would have carried the team in the playoffs) vs. Detroit with Ottawa winning

Start of Playoffs: Tampa (honestly a non-homer prediction...provided they didn't play Ottawa) vs. Detroit and I couldn't decide who would have won.

I would say the same thing. The impending injuries to Kariya/Blake sealed the deal.

Honestly, I thought going into the playoffs, the Flyers/Leafs would win it all.

Because Kariya and Selanne were not that great to begin with. All anybody wanted to talk about was how dominant they were in Anaheim together, but nobody stopped to actually look at the facts. They won exactly one playoff series together in Anaheim. Its not like they were Gretzky and Messier.

I thought Detroit over Philadelphia

A healthy Avalanche team

Tanguay - Forsberg - Hejduk
Kariya - Sakic - Selanne
Konowalchuck - Nikolishin - Barnaby
Hendrickson - Gratton - Hinote

Extras: Hahl, Marek Svatos <----dynamite in the Dallas series, top 6 winger or nothing

Blake - Vaananen
Foote - Skrastins
Liles - Boughner

Extras: Sauer

Aebischer - Salo

Do you even have an inkling of what your talking about?

Well, first off they didn't have half those guys at the start of the season.

And personally, I don't think much of anybody you have listed on their 3rd and 4th lines. There is a huge dropoff after you get past Forsberg, Sakic, Tanguay and Hejduk. Their D is fine, but again a big dropoff after the top 2 or 3.

Of course they didn't have everyone at the start of the season, but going into the playoffs, and even pre-season.....Their team was not only loaded with front-end talent/superstars, but what appeared to be an extremely well balanced mixture of vets/young players.

And if yuo do not recognize the people on the third and fourth lines......well then, your loss. You can't have stars on each line. This was an extremely deep and powerful team on paper. Unfortunately, they were lead by an inept coach, and never managed to get any sort of chemistry with the new arrivals.

you are really underrating both their talent and contributions just because of one bad season together. i dont understand why eveyrone seems to be writing them off now, they did very well in anaheim with not much supporting cast. i think the fact that they got that far with guy hebert in net is amazing in it by itself.

I predicted Ottawa vs. Dallas, but two months into the season I knew I was horribly, horribly wrong.
